Losing weight, but the scale doesn't show it.

I've been working out and low carbing for a about a month and a half now. I dropped 10 lbs right off the bat. I've also dropped at least one pant size, but the scale has been stagnant for a couple of weeks now even though my clothes continue to get looser. Is it the protein and muscle building the reason I haven't been losing weight?

Throw the scale away. Unless you're a fighter who has to get into a certain class, it does you no good.

Body measurements are your god now.

Keep doing what your doing and you will probably drop another pants size, don't get discouraged because of the scale.

That's what I been thinking. It's amazing how much better I feel. The scale can be discouraging though. Lol

Yes sounds like you are losing fat and adding some muscle. If you are doing low carb that first 10 pounds is probably largely water weight that can bounce back if you come off the diet.

For me when I did Keto, I'd swing 10 pounds in 24 hours going on and off.

I've been doing keto since some time in June and losing body fat, but haven't stepped on a scale since late March. Don't allow yourself to weigh in and you'll be glad.

As long as your waist is getting smaller and your muscles are taking shape, nothing else matters.

Just go by the mirror and how your clothes fit. When I started my new job a few months back the uniform pants I got were tight and at first I couldn't even button them, just had to keep them together with my belt. Now I can slide them off while buttoned, and I still weigh about the same. I've just gotten on a steady diet and keep hitting the weights.

1) Weight loss is not necessarily a linear process
2) Are you counting your calories, and if so did you adjust your calorie intake after losing the initial weight?

For me, I eat at least a 500 calorie deficit every day. I can weigh my self each day for a week and the scale doesn't budge until day 7.

Also, do you tend to hold a lot of water weight? Have you upped your strength training regimen? Muscle gains are an easy explanation. Also, drinking MORE water can actually help with water retention that could be caused by inflammation or dietary issues.

If diet and exercise are on point, then don't worry about the scale for now. Focus on how your clothes fit and how you feel.

Biggest mistake I made during weight loss was becoming obsessed with the scale. Lost almost all of the muscle I had. Got down to just bone and loose skin basically. It was gross.

agreed. The scale is good to gauge weight loss trends for heavy individuals at the beginning of a diet. And weighing yourself daily is not a great idea either.

Sabi said it best in the first response. Body fat % and waist size are the best indicator.

I'm done with the scale for now. It just feels good to be out of a 36 waist and back to a 34. Lol. My goal is a 32 which I haven't been since I was in the Marines.

The first 10 lbs was mostly water weight which is great for encouragmen but you cannot live there. You are losing fat mass in the belly area which is hard for most men. Your body is contantly adjusting to your new routine and way of living. Water, sodium and potassium all play a part in body weight as we drop fat. No need to drop salt just keep it where you normally do and do not add extra. Stay hydrated. Keep going. Go get a DEXA scan now and then in 12 weeks to check your progress.

On the transition from very fat to not-so-fat the scale is important. On the transition from not-so-fat to fit the scale is pretty useless.

I quit weighing myself regularly years ago. I still hop on from time to time, but I don't track it like I used to. I go by how I feel and how my pants fit. Also on my endurance while running. I don't really care that I currently weigh 185 if I can jog 3+ miles easily. Ideally I should be around 170 for my height, but I still wear a 34 pants and have for 10+ years, even back when I was around 165 shortly after being married. Part of that is my backside is rather round and my thighs are meaty. I might have been able to squeeze into a 32 waist, but I didn't want to look like I stuffed 11 lbs of sausage into a 10 lb sack.

Yep started new job in may. Working outside in TX heat, walking a construction site.

Weight has stayed steady @ 187 (5'9")

I've dropped from a 34 to a 32. Abs went from barely there to easily visible, muscular separation way more pronounced. Also dropped about 2" at the waist (lost my baby love handles).

The SO is loving it

So we blame the diet for our body's problems...
