What will make this excruciating pain go away? I need relief now and can’t drive to the hospital. There must be something. Help Please!

My ex-wife took me to the ER with kidney stones and it was so painful I couldn't wear pants. I wore a robe. I proceeded to lay down in the ER bathroom in agony and cursed anyone who came in. After two opioid drips I could walk again and passed the stones in the next 48 hours.

I'll say a prayer for you.

Beer and a hot bath. Just piss in the bath and keep the beers flowing

Where is the pain? Your flanks or your junk?

If the former (usually, that's the actual really bad part), I'm afraid there's not much you can do other than take some industrial strength painkillers.

If it's the latter, then if it's actually hurting that bad (shouldn't be), it'll be over soon.

I went to the emergency room tonight and Morphine, Tramadol, and Fentanyl didn’t work one iota on the subsiding the pain. Thankfully Diluadid finally provided some relief. Undergoing surgery in the morning. For those of you that had surgery how long was the recovery time?

I had lithotripsy where they direct sound waves to potentiate at the point of the stone and break it up. Felt like Mike Tyson hit my back a hundred times, and then had the fortunate pleasure of passing 23 fragments of that big arse stone…good times…..

I had the fun of passing one the morning before my pre-op appointment for my gallbladder removal. Talk about fricking miserable.

Pain killers and lots of water.

I've heard a couple doctors I know say that kidney stones are more painful than childbirth.

The worst one I had felt like somebody was taking a Rambo style serrated survival knife and stabbing lower back in-and-out for 1.5hrs straight. Finally had to go to the ER. Morphine and tramadol had a mild effect.

Surgery was successful. Thank god they knocked me out for it but they went in through my penis and pulled it out. Feel 95% better right now other than pissing blood and feeling the pain when I piss but damn I feel good.

Thank you to whoever invented Dilaudid

Take a soak in as hot a tub of water you can stand. I get instant relief from the pain and I've been dealing with kidney stones for ages and have passed over 20 of them over the years-----2 in the last month.

After you get out the tub it won't be long before the pain returns so I usually take a heating pad and put it on the area of my back that is in the most pain to help.

Drink lots of fluids so you can pee a lot.

If the first time with a kidney stone, just know when you get to the point you feel you have to constantly pee and you just dribble, it is getting close to coming out. That is when the stone is near your bladder. When you pee it out it will feel real weird as it rolls out your one-eyed head stopping the stream for a second or so, but instant relief is just around the corner.

Good luck.

I've had to have it done 3 times already for stones too large to pass on their own. The biggest was in my left kidney at 2 cm and for those not familiar with the metric system, that translates to 3/4 in. around.

I had to take drugs for a couple months to help break that one up and most of it passed on its own but did require the surgery for that larger parts.

Recovery is easy except for feeling like you're pissing razor blades the first couple pees, then is subsides pretty quickly.

They went in with the scope and claw machine to get mine and left the stent in place that had to be removed at a later date. That was no fun as it is done in the Drs. office and you're wide awake when he shoves that instrument up the ogre to retrieve the stent. And you'd be surprised just how long that damn stent is after they pull it out.

Been dealing with some lower left flank/back pain for about a week now. It’s not bad. Just like a constant ache. I did have an ultrasound done about 2 months ago ( for gallbladder ) that revealed a 4-5mm “shadow” on my left kidney. Has anyone else felt a constant ache before the stone tried to pass?
I’m not even sure if it is a stone but I don’t know what else a 4-5mm shadow would be.

Kidney stone pro here. My kidney stones never show on ultrasounds.
Always have to have a CT scan.

Would you have any idea what they saw on ultrasound? Maybe a cyst?
So what I’m experiencing doesn’t sound like a stone to you?

I’ve had at least a gallon of water every day for the last week or so. Hasn’t produced anything.

Some stones do show on ultrasounds. My husband and sons’ show on ultrasound. Mine do not. Did they tell you it was a stone??lIf it is a stone showing up on ultrasound they should be able to tell if it is and what size

If they are saying it’s a shadow, have a CT scan done

They just called it a “shadow” and they said it was 4-5mm. They never used the word “stone”. Again this was a subsequent finding to some gallbladder testing I had done about 2 months ago
