When I go to the ER for kidney stones, they always want to do an ultrasound first. I tell them no point in ultrasound because mine don’t show, so they do a CT scan.

For those of you that had surgery how long was the recovery time?
Depends on whether you are having lithotripsy or ureteroscopy (wire up your dick). Ive had both. Lithotripsy I recovered in about 24 hours. Ureteroscopy I felt better within about 2 days but they leave a stent in your kidney so the ureter won't collapse and you have to have that removed about a week post surgery. Wasn't bad with the stent in but not 100%. After they remove the stent you'll feel pretty normal.

They always just straight to CT scan for me. I was just in the ER from 3 a.m. Thursday until past noon with a 7mm stone I passed the next day when I got home. They hit me with morphine first, then dilaudid to finally get the pain under control. I had put up with it for 2 days before heading to the ER.
That was the 4th kidney stone I passed this month, one in the first week and 2 on Saturday 2 weeks ago.
Lucky me was told I have at least 4 more that I will probably be able to pass in the next few months coming out my right kidney.

My kidney stones are calcium oxalate stones. Did they analyze your stones to determine what causes them?

Yes, several years ago I had about 10 of them sent to a lab and they came back as Uric Acid based. I was given Allopurinol, the medicine used to treat gout, and it did help for a good while.
For some reason, the last couple years I've had an uptick in stones, with 4 requiring the old claw up the urinary tract to remove them.
Time to get these checked in a lab to see what their makeup is.

It's a bummer getting calcium oxalate stones. I have to limit eating almonds, other nuts, spinach, beans, blueberries, etc.; all healthy foods. If and when I do eat them, I eat with cheese, yogurt. Calcium binds with oxalate in the stomach and intestines before it moves to the kidneys.
Also I only drink water with fresh squeezed lemon, plain water. I do drink my coffee in the morning though.
