Yes. The reference range is actually too high. It has inched up over the past 30 years.
Just checked:
My last results were 23 alt and 29 ast.

Are you ingesting a lot of fructose, especially from non-fruit sources or fruit juice?

Non alcoholic fatty liver disease is no bueno.

If you drink a lot of alcohol, then you need to cut that and sugar.

Thank you. I’m 30 and I thought that was really high. So if I watch what I eat and cut down on alcohol it will come down? I just wanted to take control before there is permanent damage.

You're young enough you can def get it down and avoid damage. Even kids are starting to see this a lot. Especially Latin American kids--bad combo of diet (lots of soft drinks) and genetics.

Once things start open back up I’m going to gym again. All the other blood work came back normal. So I guess that’s a good sign

Can I sue my job for too much stress? Do you know a good lawyer?

Here's a good podcast ep with Dr David Ludwig. He's the real deal when it comes to fatty liver disease. He discusses nutritional and lifestyle changes and gets into the science a little but keeps it interesting.

Ludwig's creds so you know I'm not sending you to some quack or hack:

quote:

David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD, is a practicing endocrinologist, researcher, and professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Ludwig also directs the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. His research focuses on how food affects hormones, metabolism, body weight, and well-being.

Described as an “obesity warrior” by Time magazine, Dr. Ludwig has fought for fundamental policy changes to restrict junk food advertising directed at young children, improve the quality of national nutrition programs, and increase insurance reimbursement for obesity prevention and treatment.

He has received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health and published over 150 scientific articles and is a Contributing Writer for the medical journal JAMA.

Thank you.
I really appreciate this information. I was scared but now I’m thinking it’s manageable. Was worried it was hepatitis or something

Those are pretty high. I have blood work regularly post liver transplant. When all is good mine stay under or near 20. When I waited too long to change the stents they put in my bileduct once (Stupid me had things I just HAD to do) they shot over 100 and I had to be admitted. Don't fool around with those numbers.

Mine were elevated many years ago. Don’t know the levels, it was told by blood donation center that they were too high for my blood to be used for donation.
Freaked me out.

Then read up and realized it was from excessive activity the previous two days and taking a lot of NSAIDS during the same time. I had played 8-9 softball games and was taking ibuprofen 800mg every 8hrs for two days.

Have donated multiple times since then and blood was good for donation.

Yeah I’ve been running a fever for the past week and been talking a lot of Tylenol. I am going to call my doctor in the morning to see what she says

My doctor just called and told me that she is going to retest me on Monday. I’m going to stop taking Tylenol and drinking. I will report back on Monday. I hope they go down
