How far away have (would) you gone to enter a race?

For me
5k/10k: just local races
Half marathon: an hour or so away. Close enough I can drive in the morning prior to the race start
Full marathon: So far, only gone an hour, but I'd love to enter one of the big city marathons.
One of these days...
If I were younger and had fewer responsibilities, I'd be willing to travel to lots of places for races.
What say you, about any type race, like triathlons, bike races, etc?

I competed in Miami at a 3-day Crossfit event.
Flew in early Thursday, competed all weekend, hit South Beach on Monday and flew back on Tuesday.

Went from Atlanta to NOLA to run the R&R half in February.
But made a 4 day mini vac out of it.

I've done 6 hours for a triathlon that was cancelled the morning of due to severe lightening . Because of the cancellation, got to do another race the next weekend for $50 which was about 3 hours from my house. Was a long 2 weekends plus the whole half ironman. Made me think twice about travelling. At least for a triathlon it's tough.
Future plans when I get back into training are to do one half ironman a year and make a little trip out of it. There are cheaper options to ship your bike to a race. But when you start realizing all the crap you bring (helmets, bike shoes, wetsuits, nutrition, etc.) it becomes a pain quickly. I can fill up an SUV with bike, equipment, and luggage. Flying with that is annoying and expensive.
For running only, there are just too many races around me to travel far.

I ran a 10k in Aspen, but I didn't travel specifically to run the 10k, it just happened to be going on while I was there (for my honeymoon ) and I wanted to see how well I could run in high altitude.
Spoiler alert: I sucked.
I guess the furthest I have traveled is to Little Rock for a marathon. So about 5 hours.

I’ve done a half in Disney and the NYC marathon. Other than that it’s been just Nola and BR for fulls and halfs.
I’d like to do Big Sur, Marine corp, Chicago, and Napa/San Diego

I’ve flown 5 hours to Arizona for an Ironman. Made a vacation out of it as well. It was awesome.
Also have flown to Boston twice for the marathon. It’s such an awesome experience, but can’t justify returning to the same spot repeatedly for the race when there are so many other places that I’d like to see.

Ironman: US/Hawaii flight
Half Ironman: Within days drive
5k/10K/Half marathon/Olympic distance tri: Local

That’s on my bucket list. The wife thinks I’m crazy, but I just think it would be such a cool experience.
The furthest I have gone is Disney for the full. I may do Tokyo in March.

I've done the Disney World marathon and the Disneyland half. I enjoyed combining the race with a vacation.

Travelled longer than the race took.

I’m headed to Iceland on August 24th. It’s a 150 mile self supported ultra through a volcanic desert over six days.
