Going with the wife to Boston next week for 5 days and will have a packed schedule

Our hotel has a gym so I'm hoping to wake up early and get at least an hour lift in every morning, but it all depends on how late we are out.

Everything we plan to do involves a ton of walking so I'm going to let that be my cardio. We usually get 20k or more steps per day when we go on vacation.

I'm just hoping if I do a bare minimum workout each day and still enjoy myself with good food and drinks, I won't gain too much. Maybe just 2-3 lbs.

What do y'all do while on vacation?

lol I'll probably be in a 300-500 surplus each day plus I won't be working out as hard as normal

Hoping for minimal damage

I normally take a break from any training. Bust arse for a couple of months before the vacation, rest your body for a week. Unless you are training for a figure competition or a meet, you should be fine.

This is always the intent, but it never works out that way. If I make it at least once, then I consider that a win.

If you skip breakfast and eat a light lunch then you can enjoy your evening stress free if you are that worried about killing your diet.

Regardless, a week of gluttony and not working out isn't going to tank your health and fitness.

I always work out on vacation, but working out helps my mental state tremendously. I use the hotel gym, go for a run, whatever, but I need to do something for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer. I will skip the day I travel if I have a very early flight, and I rearrange my schedule if needed to make that my off day. I take one day off a week.

I don't eat as well as I do at home, but I don't snack as much either. And I really don't worry about it too much knowing that when I get back, I'll be right back to eating like I was before.

I don't expect much out of hotel gyms. This is a good time to consider bodyweight workouts. If not as a regular part of your routine, at least for times when gym facilities are minimal or nonexistent. But tbh, if you're working out hard, a week off won't hurt and may do you some good.

Yeah. It looks like we will be walking 5/6 miles min a day

If I do some weights with 20000 steps a day I hope I don't gain too much

last weekend i went to an out of town wedding with my wife (we looked at it as a vacation as it was the first time we were away without kids in forever). with my running and walking combined i was doing about 25k-30k steps a day while there. i def pigged out at the rehearsal dinner and wedding, and also ate some pizza for lunch. all in all i don't feel like i did my self a disservice. i enjoyed myself and feel like i was active enough to have earned a weekend like that.

It's vacation. You are supposed to enjoy yourself and not worry about the small things. If exercise or lifting happens to fit into that, great. Most of the time, I don't have time for that because I am relaxing. I just get back on the saddle whenever I return.

That's nothing lol. Sounds like you're tracking cals too much on vacation. Worrying too much on vacation may actually hurt you more than it helps. Let loose for a few days and you'll be refreshed and re-focused when you return.

I try to enjoy myself. Life is about the experiences and I can always work my arse off before and after vacations/holidays to stay in the groove. If you can get in a workout, do so. But don't beat yourself over it if you don't.

I quit working out on vacations. I workout so damn hard while in town I take the opportunity to rest.
Plus I've hurt myself a few times working out on vacation, so I'm done and it's liberating.

I mean one of the reasons for doing it all is so you can enjoy yourself. If you're stressing over a few lbs on vacation and you aren't some sort of competitor you may need to take a step back

Pretty sure OP has some sort of eating disorder anyway. He used to post about eating full tubs of ice cream for his cheat meal

Just live your life

I go all out on my vacations, however I just eat once a day. When I was in Las Vegas last year I ate every day around 5pm and nothing else.
