I've never barbell shrugged before. Should I go with the weight of the dumbells I would normally use?

I'm right there with you on the shrugs! I did Jacked Up Joker before this one. That has shrugs EVERY DAMN DAY! Starts 25x4 (wks 1 and 2) and finishes with 50x4 (wks 3 and 4).

Thought I got away from them with Pool Season... I guess the silver lining is they aren't every day.

The tricky part is that its sets of 25. Before PPSA stuff when I did BB shrugs, I was doing sets of 8-10 with 135 or so. But with the 25 reps I had to drop down a bunch.

Not sure what you should go with. For comparison, I used 40/50 lb EZ bar for the 21s. Then used 100/110 lb EZ for Shrugs.

A good rule of thumb is you can use about 70% as much weight with dbs as with barbell version of an exercise. So if you used 50lb dbs for 25 rep db shrugs, bb would be roughly 100/0.7 or 135-145lbs x25 for the same difficulty.

I actually find because I can rack pull barbell shrugs that I can overload them more than trying to go really heavy with the dbs, but my ROM is larger with dbs. This doesn't much matter with high rep work though.

You could also play around with 1rm comparisons here: LINK

I use a hex bar for DL and the Shrugs. I’m limited on space where I workout but generally like the hex bar too

I went with 95 which was a little light but definitely burning by #25.

Finished up day 1 today. Great workout and I enjoy having a chest, shoulder, back, and arm pump all at once very much.

We warmed up with some light barbell Bulgarians (pyramided up to 25s on the bar from bare barbell) before back squats. I had never done them before with the barbell but they are fun!

W1D3 done. Started on Sunday this week and took yesterday off. Also made a tactical mistake today. About half way through my my workout I realized I was doing W2D3’s workout.
That annoyed me but I finished it and will just do W1D3 next week. Legs are cooked after doing 11 sets of squats today. You all can look forward to that next week.

I admittedly haven’t looked ahead but I’m sure he is ramping up the intensity, so I would probably just do week 2 again

W1D3 solid, liked the semi pyramid of squats, tried to be super compact and explosive on the two final sets with reduced weights

For sure, brutal!

How do y’all do em? I do the first 10 as both arm reps and then the last 10 I alternate each arm.

W1D3 done!

Decided to do hammer curls both arms at the same time. This seemed a little easier over alternating. Is one way better than the other? I assume alternating is better due to more control, but that's just me guessing.

Those rear lats were absolute torture. Even with light weight (10 lbs) my arms felt like they were going to fall off during the last 5 reps.

In DB Strength he said to do both arms at the same time so that's how I'm doing them.

W1D4 done. Legs still recovering from yesterday. I am feeling super tired but I feel much better having worked out. Looking forward to next week.
