So when out and about this weekend I saw a decent pair of NBs that were about 50% off so I jumped on them.

Got home and put them with the others and realized I am now at 8 pair of running shoes. I was ashamed for a moment but I realized I wear all of them pretty regularly.

I come asking for approval and to look at others’ shoe porn.

I didn’t even include my casual/ work shoes.

What’s funny is I feel like such a ladyboy with my amount of shoes but my wife has 3x as much.

I really don’t even know how many pairs of shoes I own at this point.

4 pairs of boots (1 pair from the military, 1 casual, 2 hiking)
1 pair of basketball shoes (like hu flung, I like to DL in them)
4 pairs of casual tennis shoes
3 pairs of running shoes (1 for speed, 1 for distance, 1 for tough mudders and shite)
1 pair of CrossFit nanos that I do most of my general workouts in.
2 pair of dress shoes. (1 pair for my suits. 1 for my slacks)

It’s entirely too many pairs of shoes. I need to purge again.

I don't throw away old running shoes.
They end up being yard shoes.

If you’re a serious runner having a lot shoes is a good thing.

Dad is that you? I swear my father told me this word for word a few weeks ago.

I used to rotate shoes to trail shoes then yard shoes. Then I started putting up 30 miles a week.

And I had sprint shoes, trail shoes, distance shoes, and gym shoes. Then I noticed they wore out much slower.

When my last yard shoes got a hole in them I just retired my perfectly good trail shoes to it because I liked them the least.

Your dad and I aren't the only ones doing that.
After dropping $100+ on a pair of shoes, it's hard to just toss them in the garbage after a few hundred miles of running on them.

Yeah, but when you get a new pair if shoes every 3 months, you end up with a lot of yard shoes, haha. And most of my running shoes are ugly.

I have 4 pears of running shoes in my rotation and I keep 1 older pair around for "yard shoes". As they get rotated out, they go in the goodwill bag in the closet.

I think we all do the same thing with old running shoes. I have 3 that are yard shoes now. An older pair of Brooks I probably need to toss, a pair of Asics Trail shoes that are my go to for grass cutting, and a pair of Scott's that live in the basement. My current running shoes, I have two in the rotation. A pair of Brooks Ravenna 5 that are older, but still good for use occasionally. And a new pair of Ravenna I just got last week.

As far as other shoes, my feet haven't grown since 10th grade, and I'll be 37 this year, so tons have accumulated over the years. I think 4-5 pair of boots, several dress shoes, a few casual leather shoes, and maybe 3-4 pair of flip flops. And that is after I got rid of over a dozen pair a few years ago.

anybody open to nerding out what they wear?

favorites:
Brooks Ghosts 9 - short to intermediate distances. best running shoe i've ever owned.
NB 1080 v7 - amazing cushion and feel, my only complaint is that is a a completely non-responsive shoe. you have to work for any speed

likes:
Asics Venture 6 - great lightweight trail shoe. doesn't have enough ankle support, but it's really light weight on long trail runs.
Saucony Maurader - probably the best $30 shoe i've ever worn. pretty versatile for trails, sprints, medium distance. these stay in the car when i travel for work.
NB 420v3 - a decent runner. not much cushion, but very responsive.

Meh:

Reebok Astroride - a gym shoe with reeboks MT foam. probably the most comfortable for every day out of this group, but i don't love running outside in them. they are definitely the least well made shoe i've started buying nicer shoes.
UA thrill - decent gym shoe that i do dirty running in or wear in the yard
NB lonoke - i got these for trail running, but they were way to heavy for anything over a couple of miles. i hike and yard work in them.

The 4 I currently run in.

Brooks Ghost (80% of my running)- Currently in the 10's. There's nothing amazing about these shoes. I just keep coming back to them. I find something else that feels great, then I get some sort of overuse injury in them. The Ghost just gets it done. Anything over an hour and I run in them. I wish they'd make it with a much lighter/breathable upper

Saucony Kinvara- The Kinvara does what I wish the Ghost would do. Ligher, but still cushioned. Problem with the Kinvara is the drop is down to a 4mm which for long runs wrecks my Achilles/calves. Also a little tight in the toe box. These are my shoes up to 10k.

Altra One 2.5- If I could run in these injury free, I'd do it all the time. This is like wearing a comfortable slipper. Super thin upper, TONS of room in the toe box, pretty decent cushion for a relatively minimal shoe. The very things I like about it make it difficult to run long miles in (low drop and super flexible soles). This is my shoe for 5k and below

New Balance Gobi- I needed a trail shoe, but not a real trail shoe. Just something to go down dirt roads in the woods and mountain bike trails around the creeks where I live. It's really just a road shoe with a more aggressive tread (no rock plates or legit cleats or anything). It's actually a very comfortable shoe to run in. Good for runs on the road too when the weather isn't great (like when the ice and snow passed through recently).

interesting. you're the first person i've talked to that doesn't gush about the Ghost 10s.

i love my 9s, but didn't like the look of the 10s, so i wasn't planning on going with them. and i'm kinda the opposite. i'd run a 10k in them, but nothing more. that may come from wearing them in my 13.1 training and having hurt feet at the end of every long run.

i also like the look of the Gobi, but my Asics currently get the job done, so i have no reason to swap out.

But you liked the look of any of the shoes in that photo?

Just messin'. Running shoes aren't to look good. I don't guess?

Never really got into NB or Aesic. Nike and Reebok for me. 1 pair of Champion bc they were $25 on Amazon and I figured why not. Honestly not that bad of a shoe for $25.

In the market for a new pair actually. Most likely going to go Nike. Was looking at the Pegasus 33's. Not sure yet though.

Oh, I like the 10's. They just don't excite you when you run in them. They are comfortable and get the job done. But when you put on a shoe like the Kinvara or the Altra, you feel like you are about to race. Funny coming form someone who is on the slower side like myself, but it's true. I just enjoy the feeling of a lighter more minimal shoe, but it doesn't agree with me. I always try different shoes on before I buy and when I put on the 10's I couldn't deny that they just feel right and I know I reduce my chances of getting hurt.

And I'm the opposite on looks. I've been in Ghosts since the 6 or 7 and this is the first pair I actually don't think is hideous. I had the red and grey like in your picture and that was the best until my current ones.

I still never wear these in public (I just don't wear tennis shoes casually).

Now if you want ugly, my Kinvaras are where it's at. But they are running shoes. When I'm out running in short shorts and a singlet and look like I pissed myself because of sweat, the color of my shoes is the last thing to be embarrassed about.

What do these do?

I carry my runners and my Inov-8s in a bag. I'll actually change during a workout if running is involved.

i'm weird about my shoes. i like one main color for the shoe, then one pop of the color for the logo and a few accents.

for example, i really want to try brooks glycerins, but i just can't even:

and i'm very against Nike running shoes. there's a lot of great athletes that get paid to wear their shoes, but i've never once been happy with any nikes i've worn for running over Asics, Brooks, Saucony, or NB.

See those just don't look like they would be comfortable to me. They look like they would be really heavy. Am I wrong? I've never worn any of the brands you mentioned. Maybe I should give one of those guys a go. My problem is I wear the same shoe for the gym and going out in public. So I'm trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone every time I buy a new shoe pretty much.
