I lurk here mostly, but got a question for your workout baws.
What do you all use to get the stinch o death out of your gym clothes? Standard laundry detergent aint cutting it.
I've tried the vinegar during rinse cycle and it didnt help to much. Sweat still activates a pungent smell.

This is like the fourth thread on this in the past month. I've had a couple shirts I wear weekly for like 2 years and they're fine. Why do y'all's clothes smell so bad?

I use baking soda and it works for me. Dirt cheap as well!

If they are sweat wicking, you need to throw them away...they are done. Wife runs long distances and for a few weeks I thought she had the aids or something. I did some research and we figured out the moisture wicking properties fail after a certain point and they become pungent.

Baking soda worked for me. I went a little heavy but I did about half a cup for all of my workout clothes with a tide pod. Let it fill up and soak for an hour, resumed the wash cycle.
Then just for good measure I washed them again, throwing a quarter cup in with the detergent, but no long soak.
Also I normally use Tap Cold Settings, but for this I ran with Hot.
Smell perfect now.

Thanks for the baking soda tips, fellas. Hadn't seen that mentioned yet.
And Mingo, you might want to increase your intensity baw. If you're not smelly, you're not doing it right!
Thanks folks.

I play a lot of tennis and sweat a ton. I go through 3 or 4 shirts and pairs of wristbands every time I play. Most of the clothes I wear are dry fit/sweat-wicking/etc...
I was about to throw away ALL of my clothes because they smelled clean when they came out of the dryer, but the minute I started sweating the smell would come back.
I tried multiple things, but I recently gave something called Rockin' Green a shot. I bought the pre-soak (Funk Rock) product and the detergent. I soaked all of my terrible-smelling clothes in the bath tub for a few hours in the pre-soak with hot water (the water was brown when I took the clothes out). Then I used the detergent and washed the clothes normally and dried them normally. To my amazement, I have worn 5 of the bad-smelling shirts and not one of them smells anymore when I sweat! I couldn't believe it. So, if you want something that really works, I suggest giving it a try.

quote:I use a cup of vinegar, sports wash, and downy unstoppables for each wash and that seems to have done the trick. Maybe you need to put your vinegar in the wash cycle, not the rise.

I guess I'm lucky. Use the normal sport Tide pods in my POS washer and don't have any issues. I make sure to wash immediately on days that they're soaked with sweat, but thankfully that less often as it cools down.

Use baking soda in your washer when you are cleaning gym clothes.
