No worries…the reality is aging sucks.

My numbers are better than average but I still was considering TRT and when I went down that rabbit hole I figured that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. My numbers are decent and how much if this “unhappiness” is due to middle age vs hormone issues? Who knows?

But I will say the last year of grinding in the gym has been a high point and has been a lot of fun.

My advice would be don’t do TRT unless you’ve put the work in yourself and see no benefit. At our ages we’re lucky to have the numbers we have.

Y'all have talked me off the TRT train for now.

When I do hit the gym, I usually don't get great results, even when lifting heavy and taking protein/creatine.

I guess I'll hit it harder this time.

I will add that there will always be guys bigger and stronger than you at the gym….no matter how big and stronger you get…but maybe they’re morons that live in their car. So you have that going for you.

It sounds stupid but consistency is the key. Picking a basic program and doing it 3-4 days a week for a year.

Peruse the health board …there is a of knowledge over there.

My sleep sucks, as you get older, you'll probably find that going to sleep and staying asleep (without sleep aids) gets hard and harder.

Another reason why you should be lifting …. Your sleep would likely improve

One shot a week. You can even do it subq.

Why are people afraid of that? There are people having to do insulin injections daily

Lmit sugar as well and are you counting grams of protein? You need more than you may think. I'm late 40s, did a couple cycles of Rad-140 and had good results.

Not afraid and have actually considered it…but don’t know how necessary or beneficial it is if within an average to high range naturally for your age and I personally wouldn’t want to run the risk of interfering with my natural production. That could change.

Just my opinion and this thread was started on the OT board so I know there will be differing opinions and more expertise over here. I still think trying to adjust all of the other things mentioned is a better starting place. OP was originally concerned about losing muscle mass so lifting and focusing on diet macros seems like a logical place to start….especially if he’s NOT lifting and walking 7 miles a day. YMMV

ETA - if I was low T or had a medical condition that required a shot - like your insulin example- it I’d be all in.

At what number did you get on TRT?

-My Testosterone Serum Level is 664 (middle of the normal range)
-My Free Testosterone Direct is 6.1 (the normal level starts at 7.2).

My regular doctor (I go every few years for a physical) says as long as a man's libido is high he doesn't need testosterone, and mine is high.

I'm pushing 60 and have really started to notice a loss of upper body muscle mass, especially biceps. I've never lifted much (I do cardio - 7 miles a day of walking) but every year or two I will get in a routine of lifting that lasts a few months.

What say old-timers of OT? Should I go to one of the "men's clinics" and get on TRT? I'll certainly start lifting regularly is so.

If you are on TRT what are the negative side effects? Otherwise I'm very healthy and never been on any prescription medications.

For those on TRT did you get into lifting once you started? How many days/week?

I know, health board.

All advice and insults are appreciated.

no you dont need to go on trt yet,

1) start taking boron @15mg a day to help with free test

2) start lifting, how the frick you expect to maintain muscle mass when you are doing nothing but walking? i mean come on. You do not need trt to start lifting. start with the starting strength program to begin and if you can find a starting strength gym where you are...go to it

3) up your protein to a minimum of 1g per lb of bodyweight. being older, this is important

4) start creatine, start at 5g a day of monohydrate(creapure brand) and then in a couple months, up to 10g.

as far as the rest of your questions...why the frick you waiting on trt to start lifting?

Doc, what are your thoughts on Cialis/tadafanil for men’s health/aging? Seems like there are a lot of studies confirming it reverses atherosclerosis and improves endothelial health. It also has anti platelet effects and lowers blood pressure in addition to its general vascularization effect for improving muscle recovery, injury healing, and joint function. I read a blog saying that it improves testosterone to oestradiol ratio as well. Seems like a lot of good effects with a bonus of your dick working better. Any thoughts?

I just started 5 mg daily. Heard Robb Wolf talking about cardiovascular benefits. I wasn’t even thinking it would help with recovery after workouts or lean muscle mass but it seems like it does. I’m going to see if I notice a difference. I even read a study that it improves insulin sensitivity as well as being a general anti inflammatory.

Tried to talk to my PCP about it but he didn’t want you to discuss any off label usage. Got it cheap from an online provider though. I think it lowered my BP too which was great because I ran a little high.

yea does all kinds of things. I use everyday and if im lookin for a huge pump I will pop a 20 about an hour or two before workout and have 10g of citrulline mallate.

shouldnt have a problem getting doc to prescribe 5mg daily and 20 for intercourse. That is not off label use. just has other benefits.

he prolly didnt want to discuss because he is prolly ignorant on it.

I am 61 and started TRT about 3 years ago. My levels were around 600 but now around 1100. I feel great and and workout 5 to 6 days a week. I’ve always worked out but have taken to another level. Taking 100mg of TRT a week plus cialis and creatine daily.

yep and grab some carditone from amazon, take 2 in the morning, 1 at night. Your BP will stabilize on lower end after that.
