I have a hard time justifying spending $50+ on a pair of gym shorts that I’m going to probably holes in after a heavy deadlift session.
well thats the thing
the better brands are not going to tear up like that
I have years worth of deadlifts, cleans, etc on my FreeFly shorts and there is just a little bit of fraying on the thigh

This entire thread is disturbing to say the least.

I also prefer 5” shorts w/pockets and liner. Nike makes a great one but I refuse to buy their products due to their support of Kaepernick and BLM.

Just have to hawk online. Use google shopping for the brand you are looking at, sign up for email lists, etc.
For instance, Vuori can be purchased online direct from Vuori, or on retailers like REI, jackrabbit, runningwarehouse. I sign up for their emails and just look for things to go on sale. They just had a sale on their site and I got two pairs of shorts for $36 each + tax and shipping. Retail is normally $68 + tax and shipping.

Thanks. I get their emails and only buy on sale. I didn't know about the other sellers. They ran out of everything in that last sale before I saw the email though.

Man I know! That last sale everything sold out so fast. I was lucky to get two pairs in size medium that weren’t a weird color.
I got a pair of the Trail shorts that I’m really liking. Very similar to the Kore but a shorter inseam.

I also like Myles Apparel
I own 6 pairs and love them. 6" inseams with pockets is hard to beat

Lulu is definitely great, but pricey. I was close to revamping my entire shorts lineup with Lulu but recently found InMotion from Target.
They have a few options and all are nearly as good as Lulu for $20 per pair as opposed to $70-90. Give them a tryl.

quote:I scoffed at all the guys at my gym wearing lulu shorts until my sister got me a pair for Christmas. Can't go back now. So comfortable and they take an absolute beating. Like the ten thousands too.
I'll pay $20 more and get shorts that hold up for years no matter how much I abuse them.

Usually ill grab some reebok, aasics, or Adidas workout shorts for around 10-15$ a pair at Marshall's.

I grabbed some more Reebok speedwicks for $20 thanks to 50% for healthcare workers.

Lululemon - I actually like the slimmer cut of the T.H.E short over the Pace Breaker, but it doesn't come in a liner version. I find the PB liner is excellent and has the bonus of a stretch phone pocket in the liner on the left thigh. I would consider this brand the standard to which I hold the others up against. Right now health care providers, first responders, etc are getting 25% discount with an ID on in store purchases, which changes the game compared to the others.
Vuori - I like the Kore 7.5". To me, the Kore 7.5" actually seems a tiny bit shorter than the 7" inseam version of the Lululemon shorts I mention above. Fabric is comparable to above, but you lose the zip pocket. Back pocket has velcro. Liner is super comfortable. I go back and forth as to whether or not I like these or the Lululemon shorts better. I haven't tried Vuori Banks, but may give them a whirl.
Birddogs - I think their marketing goes a little far, but their shorts are uber comfortable. I almost forget the liner is there but for the right reasons - still keeps everything in check, but without being confining in the least bit. Their longer size is 8" - I tried the 6" and felt it was just a bit shorter for my taste. The 8" feels a smidge longer than the two I mention above, and I feel like the leg is cut a little fuller, but without being too relaxed of a fit. My opinion: best liner, but still #3 overall behind the two I mentioned above. Free shipping is slow, doesn't track well, and I suppose they have limited inventory, as the colors that work for me tend to be gone whenever I'm shopping. Return/Exch policy is super though.
I have tried and sent back offerings from Rhone because I didn't like the fit, but the fabric is nice, and construction is quality. I plan on trying Ten Thousand's Foundation short when they get some inventory in a color that I'm wanting.
I'm waiting on an order from Outdoor Voices that is actually coming today, so I'll see what I think with those and maybe update.
