Doing it as well, except I didn't start until yesterday.

Been drinking entirely too much, as I really enjoy my double IPAs and bourbon. I've gained a good bit of weight and I sleep like crap. Need a reset from the booze and its effects.

I know I'm not going to go completely sober, but the plan is to be much more intentional when I do reintroduce the beer and bourbon, whenever that may be.

That sounds pretty healthy to me. I brew beer so quitting altogether means giving up a hobby I enjoy. I also have 6 craft breweries, 2 good tap houses, and a bottle shop all in walking distance so going for a walk to get my 10k steps for the day can easily have a destination where I can have a sampler flight or a beer or two.

These occasional monthly resets to keep drinking in the “acceptable” category is what generally works for me. For most of 2022, I drank “Leg Day IPAs” as a treat after finishing a leg day (2-3x a week) and would otherwise try to just be mindful/intentional about drinking.

Currently I’m trying to get close to my body fat/weight goals in a short time frame and just don’t have beer calories to spare. A big part of the reason for that is I started having 3-4 beers a day over the Christmas break and didn’t make my December weight loss goal as a result.

Tomorrow night (or technically Sunday at midnight) will be a week for me. I stopped after the toast at midnight on NYE. Feeling good and want to keep seeing the benefits. I did indulge thyself with pizza and a cookie cake with the kids tonight. A fun treat after a week of very intentional, arse kicking strength workouts plus an 8 mile run today. HIIT boot camp tomorrow plus a 2-3 mile walk at some point. Hoping to keep myself dry for a long time to come. Alcohol just doesn’t add anything to my life anymore.

Sounds like you’re beasting in 2023! Drinking some sparkling water here and watching Netflix with the family. Definitely sleep better without drinking.

Enjoy! Random but the best sparkling water I’ve ever had (and I’ve had them all) is the wal mart brand— Clear American pineapple coconut. It’s the best kept secret and I can’t believe I’m sharing but I live far enough from most of you to trust you won’t raid my wal mart of it.

Also going dry but it isn’t much of a change now. I had one in October on vacation and one with my dad on NYE watching bowl games. Makes a huge difference in how you feel. I’m just keeping it few and far between these days.

Curious for those of you going dry—is it because you just kind of overindulged during football/holidays and want to lose a few pounds by hitting reset? Or do y’all feel like you’d like to see how you feel long term without alcohol as it’s part of your most everyday life?

Overindulgence for me. Between the Astros postseason run and the holidays I just needed to reset and drop the 5-10 pounds I put on

For me, it’s a bit of both. It’s super dark and cold here Dec-Feb in Canada, so if I don’t come up with a plan I’ll just sit in my house, watch Netflix, and drink dark/strong beers and wait on it to get above freezing in April. So I guess it’s the avoidance of gaining weight?

Also this last year I’ve been in a calorie deficit since April and have almost reached my weight/bf% goal, so jump starting the year with a month off and a fairly deep cut (I just removed the beer calories from my diet) will hopefully mean I can spend the rest of 2023 in maintenance and start packing on some muscle.

Overindulge for me. No plans on giving up drinking. My Untapped check-ins for 2022 was 460, and that doesn’t include beers I’ve checked in already. Sooo, need to cut down some.

It's been a problem in my life for a decade and a half. I don't just drink a beer or two, if I drink.... I'm almost guaranteed to black out or come pretty damn close. So it's hopefully the start of a sustained life style change for myself.

ETA: today's my 11th day without a drink

For me personally it's because I over indulged for probably the last 4 months of the year and it slowed a lot of my health goals (and is a complete waste of money)

So I'm going through at least March and possibly further with no alcohol

A bit of both, but I need to work on getting healthier overall. If I could manage to just have one drink a couple times a week, it would be different. But I've been steadily having 4+ drinks most days for a while. That's just not healthy. So I need a complete reset for at least a month.

I did try the Sam Adams Just the Haze NA IPA last night and this is by far the best NA beer I've ever had. This should definitely help with my craving for an IPA this month.

I’m trying to like Kombucha—been trying for a few years but decided to pick a few up at the store yesterday. Just trying to drink different things that are tasty but offer decent health benefits (or don’t detract, at the very least). I struggle with Kombucha. Anyone else? Or maybe there’s a certain flavor/brand that’s actually palatable?

I heard of this for the first time this week. I had never heard of’Dry January’. When it was explained to me my comment was that it was the stupidest concept I ever heard of.
