Joe Rogan Podcast YouTube Link

I found this very interesting. I've read a good bit from both and I have to say after hearing this that Dr. Guyenet really came across in the better light.

Gary doesn't really have much science backing his claims, mostly anecdotal evidence and hypotheses that haven't been proven.

For those who don't know, Guyenet posits that it is the brain that regulates obesity & Taubes claims it's the macro content of the food we eat (not how many calories overall).

Obesity is real simple, it's portion size. People think it's normal to eat 2 pounds of pasta in a setting. Go to other countries or rewind America 50 years ago and portion size is half the amount.

I'm 37, 165#s and eat anything I want but my portions are small. If you clean your plate in this country there's no way you'll not be obese.

I couldn’t finish the podcast. Got 45 mins in and had to cut it off. Too much intellectual dick measuring over splitting hairs about something that I believe discipline can fix 99% of the time.

Yep it’s not very complicated.. when you eat like shite and avoid cardio... you pack it on quickly.. I know from experience ... and all the snack Reese’s late at night and drunk pizza and it’s a recipe for being a fatarse...

These arguments just seem really stupid to me

Why are we looking at one sole cause for obesity? Who’s to say there’s only one sole cause to begin with?

The risk for heart disease for instance is multifactorial. Why can’t obesity be multifactorial?

Guyenet is the biggest douche to ever be on Rogan. He was an entitled, condescending prick the entire time. It's one of the few JRE podcasts I've turned off.

Just keep in mind that he and Taubes have gone at it a lot over the years and genuinely dislike each other.

I don't think anyone thinks there's a sole cause, but Guyenet's line of thinking is varied and multifactorial compared to Taubes. The brain controls the processes but there's a bunch of reasons we get fat.

Obesity is simply caused from eating too much of the wrong shite period.

That said it is true that eating the wrong shite will effect people differently. Some gain more weight than others eating the wrong food. Some people have a harder time losing fat than others. The cause doesn't change though it we all ate a good diet in correct portions and moved around more we would not be obese.

this is coming from a guy who has lost over 100 pounds, is still obese and struggles everyday to shed 5 pounds a month. frick yes I want pizza and burgers everyday but it isn't good for you.

It’s really not that difficult. It’s portion control and the processed shite down the grocery aisles that are packed with less nutrition dense, high calorie foods. People sacrificed healthy eating for the convenience of packaged foods. The latter makes you fat. There is a slow trend of people going back to home cooked meals, but it needs to pick up.

Taubes is a writer. That's all. I advise taking it to a much deeper level with actual scientists.
