Looking to ease back into the game after a year and a half off. 5k ish to 5 miles max, double as a race day shoe at the moment.

I left off in Hyperions which were super nice. Currently eyeing Endorphin Speed, just wasnt sure if there are any new favorites.

1. The obvious answer is it's different for every person, as fitting is an important piece to this.

2. I love my Endorphin Speeds, and I used to think my Hoka Gaviota was the best until I started running in those Saucony's. Best running shoe I've ever owned.

I ran tempos and raced in the Hyperion Tempo this spring. They're pretty nice.

I run in Endorphin Speed 3’s too. And also my favorite shoes ever. I have a few pairs of Shifts but like the speed more. Both are great!

Yeah I used to be a Hoka loyalist and still love them, but the very first time I ran in the Speeds I was floored by how awesome that are. Literally no break in period for me.

Saucony Endorphin Speed
Puma Deviate Nitro 2
New Balance Rebel

Saucony is about to release a Kinvara “Pro” which will have a plate in it. Probably will be good.

Thank you my brothers in christ. It seems that the endo speed is the choice.

Speed 2 was a great tempo shoe. Speed 3 is a nice shoe but more of an everyday trainer that still has some good versatility. I wouldn’t want to wear them for a 5/10k race.

You can find some great deals on Vaporfly 2’s.

if only run 5k tempos why not get $150 vaporfly 2 that can be found. as cheap and better than endo speed 3. end of the day depends on what shoe you like and works for you.

Nike Air Zoom Tempo Next% when on sale. Use them at Happy's 5k runs.

I like the Infinity React for tempo/fartlek runs.

Nike Streakfly and Adidas Takumi Sen would be good choices too.

Use Vaporflys for races instead of tricking your body to thinking it can run that efficiently all the time.

that makes no sense, but using that logic why even get a "tempo" shoe. if OP is only running 3-5 miles the "tempo" part is 3 miles max, so seems you would be running race pace for that tempo why not practice in your race shoe.

agree takemi sens is good option but runs rather narrow if you have wider foot.

I would save the investment and solely use them for racing. When we got on the track for repeats, we only spiked up when we were going all out in the end. Racing flats/tempo shoes are the way to efficiently train your body.

Again though, the "cheat shoes" do not provide a training benefit. Will they help you run fast at the time? Absolutely. The problem is the shoes help the runner too much to get any benefit from traijing.

For most people, they provide 1% or less improvement in running economy. I personally save my Vaporfly’s for race day and don’t train in plated shoes, but don’t think it’s that big a deal if someone wants to. Proper training, recovery, diet, and sleep are all much more important but I think we all know that.

if anyone is interested in trying takumi sens 9 for $80 - limited sizes. also have some adios pro 3 for $140ish. I really like the pro 3. can be daily runner or even a race day shoe. Ran several 50k's and "speed" work in them with no issues. I'd pick vapors for race day marathon but pro 3 feels little more stable for daily use at any distance / pace.

I can vouch for the adios pro 3, it's an amazingly versatile shoe. I have 3 pairs and use it as a daily trainer.

Thanks again for the feedback. Endorphins arrived today, Ill test them in the morning.

I say 5k lightly. I am just done with the long course shite. Just not fun to train for, I can say Ive run one ultra and Im cool with that.

I will probably cap at 10k and if I get balls deep again Ill get a plated race day shoe to throw in the mix.
