Anyone not take prescribed medicine?
Somewhat hesitant to take a med because side effects it could have and becoming dependent on it. I was given 2 prescriptions at GI office. Try one for a week. If that doesn't work then take the 2nd. Anyone take gone to these doctors?

Sure the GI prescribed them for a reason

There are all types of meds a GI might prescribe. Not enough info to comment.

Lots of people are on necessary meds. More the norm than not. After extensive blood work after thyroid removal at age 48, I have been on many. Never would have known otherwise. I’m not Superman. Doubt you are not the next either. All part of the aging process.

I take synthroid for an underactive thyroid. But I just read where the UK distance runners have been taking it as a performance enhancement....so I've doubled up.....sub 4 minute mile here I come.

Pushing 70,no meds.I guess you could get a 2’nd opinion but I don’t see much point in even going to a Dr.if you don’t want or trust their advice.

Doctor's go straight to the pill before trying any type of alternative remedies or medicines. That's what they were trained to do.

Probiotics worked wonders for my GI system. I rarely have to take it these days.

Trulance and another I haven't looked into; set it aside for now. Trulance is the best after research. It can be taken with or without food, any time of the day. I should've mentioned in the post that I take a lot of medicine already. It's for chronic constipation. But for a 30 supply it is $600. I have a 90 day coupon but after that goes I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I wish I didn't.

I take levothyroxine (generic Synthroid) for hypothyroidism. It's rampant in my paternal family. I take a higher dose at 31 than anyone else in my family at any age though, 250mcg

$600.00 a month, shite!,.I’ll tell you my experience with irritable bowel syndrome.I had it for years,I alternated diarrhea and constipation, seldom had normal stools.I also had a lot of gas which triggered my wife, especially when I farted in church.
Anyway in 2009 I had a foot of my colon removed for diverticulitis and after I recovered my bowel function has been completely normal and little gas.I credited having my diseased colon removed for my improvement, but now I’ m thinking it might have been the elemination of dairy from my diet.I quit all dairy in 2010.
My brother-in-law brought us 3 cheesecakes for New Years. They were delicious and I ate more than my share, besides gaining about 5 lbs.I got constipated as hell.
I’ve been doing some research and dairy can cause constipation in some people which I didn’t know.
Some people advocate for probiotics but I ‘m not sure about that.
Another possibility,my sister has big problem with constipation, she had a colonoscopy and GI Dr. told her she has a redundant colon,he recommended lots of fiber, eat prunes and drink lots of water..
So I would try eliminating dairy from your diet and high fiber diet and probiotics,I wouldn’t want to pay $600/ month for a pill if I could avoid it.My previous comment-I was thinking Prilosec or something like that,I apologize if I came across as harsh.

I’ve never had to take anything due to health reasons other than the occasional meds post surgery.
