Guys I discovered that if you mix hot water with vodka it tastes just like hot sake but less calories

Still makes you feel good and helps with muscle soreness

I did. I've tried other years but did not stick with it. I think I am ready this time. Before Lent, I'd been dieting and exercising to drop 15 lbs or so, with only moderate success. It is amazing how much easier it is to diet when I am not reserving 1/3 to half my daily caloric intake for alcohol, lol.

The next step is when you start looking to food as how it impacts your exercising. At the end of 2021 I went from the 190s down to the 160s with my weight. All strictly dietary changes and cutting out the excessive alcohol and fast food. Then I kicked it into gear exercising, and needed some more good calories to be prepared for that. It is kind of funny to me, sitting at my desk in the afternoon knowing what my workout is going to be that night and what I should or shouldn't have for dinner.

That has been what has been the most impactful for me in cutting out alcohol. There's no way I'd go workout for 45 minutes to an hour after a couple of stiff drinks. Whereas before I'd fix a drink before I started cooking. Have another while eating. Have another an hour or so after dinner. Next thing you know I've had 4-5 over the course of the evening, or I had the first one or two then had a couple of beers while watching the kids play in the yard. Just empty calories.

Yes it will be interesting to see how cutting alcohol out affects my running. Just getting back into semi serious running after a few years of injuries. One benefit I am noticing today: 3rd day in a row of 6am workouts! Before, a Friday night of drinking would have made that 3rd workout hard to get up for.

I'm doing it. I don't drink often so I thought it would be easy but a few days in and this is tougher than I thought.

I’m incidentally 3 days through. Prob will not last tonight. Going to have no more than 3 though, which is my new lent goal.

Made it through a family funeral and reception without alcohol. Tomorrow is a mimosa and bloody mary brunch. Could technically partake on a Sunday but I am going to keep it going.

Definitely am. I typically binge drink on Friday or Saturday, and once during the week I will kill a bottle of red wine. Been doing that routine for awhile. I noticed my stomach was looking tight so I went to the so I went to the doctor… early stages of cirrhosis. They said I’m fairly young for the diagnosis but it is what it is.

Didn't make it past Saturday. The symbolism kf the copperhead snake curled up around my foot while taking a leak in the back yard Saturday night was not lost on me. I'm not giving up on this one.

I do it most lents. Some I just cut beer and/or wine, but honestly its better just to go dry. My wife wants to drink wine on Sundays (cheat days) but I try not to do that either.
