FYI for anyone still struggling. I finally had the C5-C7 disc fusion last month. Pain and numbness completely gone. I didn't realize how much pain I was in until it was fixed. The recovery sucked, and having to wait probably 6 months before I can lift like I once did also will suck, but damn it is worth it.

How old are you? My doc suggested I wait at least a decade if I could.

46. They called my discs bulging for 2 years. They were herniated and "bone on bone." When a surgeon who has done thousands says "this is one of the worst I've seen and are you sure you don't have symptoms on the right side as well"....I suppose surgery is the answer.

Were you not eligible for a disc replacement (ADR) instead?

I had multiple levels and severe arthritis. Regarding mobility, I can’t notice the restriction unless I need to look directly overhead. I changed a light bulb by feel today because I couldn’t look directly at the ceiling

Ah, the severe arthritis is what disqualified you then. Thankfully they caught mine in time so had two discs replaced via ADR instead of the fusion.

I deal with a flare up roughly every 6 months to a year. I try to work through the pain but always wind up getting the shot. Chronic pain will wear you down and jack up your sleep. Sleep is a nonnegotiable for healing.

Plus, nonstop ibuprofen gives me the worst stomach ache, which is miserable on its own.

Get an mri if not already find a good chiro and get On good decompression machine at least once a week. Start strengthening your back muscles using a Romain back extension machine..

I have same. Did cortisone, epidurals, you name it. Went to neurosurgeons and orthos. Have gone to PT. Only thing that has helped is dry needling. It’s a game changer. Gives me relief for weeks at a time. I refuse to get surgery. I know too many that have and they are never the same.
