I know a lot more people that can PC 315 than can actually run (as in like sub 7 pace) 50 miles.
I'd consider 50 miles at a 10 minute pace to be a great thing for a regular, fit person.

This is such a hard comparison simply because you can either PC 315 or you can’t. There are different levels of “running” 50 miles.
I tend to agree. This is apples and oranges. I will never be able to PC 315, but I could run 50 at a pretty good clip with little deviation from my current training.

I've cleaned 315 before. I'll never approach running 50 miles. I'm just trying to get to a 6 minute mile currently.

although I do think it would be easier and faster to take a random Joe off the streets and train him to run 50 miles at a 10-12 min pace than it would be to train the same guy to PC 315
obviously genetics would also play a huge role in all of this

Same here
It’s been quite a while since I’ve cleaned over 300, but 50 miles sounds like some crazy shite . Don’t see myself ever trying that

I can still do 2 plates for some reps, but no reason to go higher. As running goes, I'll do a 5k here and there, but anything over is a hard pass.

I'd say running 50 miles is immensely more impressive. At least in my opinion anyways.
The most I have ever ran was 3 miles. I hate running. I'll just lose interest really quickly which is why I can't go for very long at all. I can say definitively I will never ever in my life run 50 miles.
Back in my fb days in college, I never actually cleaned 315. The most I got was about 255. But my coach stated I was doing that off of pure strength, and that my technique was lacking. I know I could reach that, as a friend of mine and teammate was cleaning 325 and he was 70 pounds lighter than me. It's amazing what you can do with proper technique.
If I ever got back to lifting weights like I was during my playing days 7 years ago, instead of being the casual weight-lifter that I am now, thererically I know I could clean 315 if I made that my personal goal.

I honestly believe I could train any pedestrian, even an overweight one to get to 50 miles, it’s just a lot dedication for a long time. You can couch to 10K in 3 months, another 3 months to half marathon, another 4 months to full marathon. So that’s half the way in less than a year. Then maybe another year to get you to 50 miles. But you have to commit to running 5-6 days/week for 48 weeks out of the year for 2 years. Like most things, the path is simple, it’s just not easy.

Again the 50 mile distance all depends on time limit or required pace. Any normal person could finish 50 miles in a day without the need for training but that same person isn't going to clean 315. these two feats aren't comparable.

It is very clear that maybe one or two of you that responded have ever run a 50 miler. The amount of people that have cleaned 315 is higher than the amount that have actually "ran" not walked for 50 straight miles. Now, is this due to more guys like to lift heavy or other variables, yes, probably so. But overall the reality is these 2 things simply can not be compared and a debate is useless.
Evidence that less than 150 people in America ran 50 milers faster than a 9min avg. LINK
There is no standard evidence for who can clean 315 but we all know it is in the 1000s if you take all crossfitters, college football players etc.
Just my observations

What was the pace on your last 50 miler, which was super hilly and muddy? 7:14 or something stupid like that?
Posted on 4/1/21 at 10:30 am to Andychapman13
Yeah, something stupid!

your claim that less than 150 people ran 50 miles faster than 9min isn't even accurate. from the link just for 2020 it was over 160. My GF is #19 for females so I'm well aware of what it takes to achieve this. While I haven't run a stand alone 50 miler I have completed the 100 mile distance. I will be tackling the 50 miler soon and plan to be well under the 9 min/mile pace.

What’s your real name, KS Nola? Surely we know who you are. Walkboo4 had the 8th fastest 50mile time in America this year so far on a super hilly, super muddy trail and the 40th fastest 100miler time in America in 2018. He came in 25th in Badwater 135 in 2019.
I think when he said less than 150 he meant men were less than 150, which was 142.
Your gf is fast btw. Looking forward to being able to search your stats.

search away if you want. Kevin Spruell. find me on strava and ultra sign. I simply made a clarification to walkboo4's statement. Had to look up walkboo4 to figure out it was walker higgens who I know. I was at MS50 that day as spectator (ran LA marathon the next day) b/c GF ran it. I'm not comparing my stats to anyone or trying to impress. done a few races here and there. FYI I'll be on the starting line at BW135 2022 with Walker and my GF.

Hey bro, if you went sub24 at Mountain Lakes you’re legit bro! I wanted to do that race this year, but the waiting list is too long. Gotta settle for Oregon Cascades instead, along with a few others this year.
Posted on 4/1/21 at 2:09 pm to Andychapman13
Mountain lakes is a good race. well organized and supported. its pretty remote. 2+ hr drive from portland and not much in between. I had good day until mile 70ish when I mentally shut down. I'm much better on roads than trails. Another good one out that way is cascade crest. GF did it and I paced last 30.

Hey Kevin, you're correct about people. I meant to say men because the women's world record is 324 set in Rio. I say this also, I am also one of those that will never be able to PC 315. I'm 138 most days. When I lifted alot my heaviest was 170 and also just wasn't powerful enough for super heavy weights.
Posted on 4/1/21 at 2:27 pm to Walkboo4
Walker I finally beat you at something... I'm 150 most days. Shout out to cookies for this glorious achievement.
back to the original question of this thread...I'll never PC 315 no matter how much effort or time I put into it which I think is the case for most "normal" people. I can run 50 miles, however the two tasks are too different to definitively say one is more difficult.
If anyone looking for 50 mile trail race, Dirty German May 8th up here in Philly is still open

Yeah, I checked out Cascade Crest and it’s a waitlist too! Pretty much the only 2 I could get in on in that Oregon/Washington area, Oregon Cascades 100 and Strawberry Fields Forever I’m signed up for! Hoping to go sub 24 at Strawberry Fields and just enjoy the scenery at Oregon Cascades and see what happens!
