I went keto from Feb ‘22 to Jan ‘23. Zero or very close to it carbs. Mostly meat and cheese, with an eye on hydration and electrolytes constantly. I lost 55 pounds (218 to 163) and felt great for a while.
But I post this as a warning. My resting heart rate went from 50ish to 100ish. My capacity to exercise went from “marathon runner” to “can barely move.” My heart is totally messed up right now, and I’m back on carbs and on a mission to strengthen my heart again.
It’s a powerful tool that puts you in a fasting state. But be careful and always take breaks and focus on strength. I messed up. Fwiw.

Started 2022 - 270lbs(2021 = lazy + Covid)
Got down to 225 before Thanksgiving. Then put on 15lbs during the holidays.
Restarting tomorrow. Currently at 240, goal is 205lbs.
Just turned 50. 6’1.
Have a big frame and lift weights and cardio. 205lbs is perfect for me.
Good luck fellas!

That’s a rough diet. Was it mostly cured meats? Notice any change in resting BP?
Posted on 1/13/23 at 7:00 pm to FieldEngineer
No I cooked fresh cuts in olive oil on my stainless steel most nights. My systolic bp dropped 20 points, and I had orthostatic hypotension almost all the time (light headed when standing abruptly). Carbs and fluid definitely contribute to hypertension. I am almost certain the salt model is wrong about that. I think I just let my strength go, and that’s where I messed up. Would’ve been better if I lifted instead of being a cardio junky. I see a ton of keto eaters that lift that seem to do better on it.

I was 260 on Labor Day and am at 227 today.
Lost enough through diet and walking to start lifting with good form again. Re-started GreySkull first of the year in earnest. My triglycerides went from 500 to 260 in the last 3 months and I’m off BP meds.
But I’m only eating around 1800 kcals a day and have to force down a protein shake to get to 130 grams of protein a day.

How’s everybody doing so far?
I was 227.2 on 1/3
I’m down to 214.4
Working out 4/5 times a week ( 3 cardio workouts, 1 isometric and at least 1 weight lifting)
And I’m strict about my Monday - Friday diet. Protein powder/ spinach/ pineapple/chia/flax shake for breakfast. Red meat and veggies and the occasional potato for dinner.
Weekends I’m not strict at all I just try to limit where I can.
Man boobs are giggling less by the day.
Hope y’all are doing well with your goals so far

I was 181 on 12/28. I was 168.5 this morning.
Running/walking for an hour every morning. Gym at lunch. Purged all snacks from the house and almost completely quit drinking. I went from 10 to 15 drinks per week to 3 or 4. Not strict on diet on the weekends but I try to be mindful and not go to crazy. I eat ~2400 calories/day during the week and around 3000 on the weekends. I'm also making an effort to workout during the weekend even if it's just active recovery type stuff. TRT was pretty much a catalyst for the change. I have the energy for and can recover from workouts wayyyy better than I was before.

213.2 this morning. Made it through Hogs, crawfish season, and Jazzfest without ballooning up like a whale.
Getting closer to being under 200 for the first time in over a decade. Very excited. Figure I have another 3 months to go and I should be happily and sustainably under 200. Can’t wait.

I quit eating for like a month basically I just eat at night. And usually something low calorie like ground meat. I’ve lost fat but don’t have a 6 pack yet but I always feel like death and I’ve been sick for like 2 weeks. I think I’m gonna get on test this time for real

Almost 1 year since my T2D diagnosis. I've cleaned up and been working hard.
62 yr old, 6' 2"
At diagnosis A1C was 12.4 and today is 5.2
Blood glucose was 385 now it stays under 100.
I went clean keto and started walking until it got too cold outside. I then joined a gym and started alternating cardo (elliptical trainer) and resistance training days. On January 18 I was enrolled in Virta, lost another 12 pounds after that.
As personal goal I really really want to get my %BF down to 20%.
Here's the proof

283.6 to 207.0. Way to go dude. That's awesome.
How much better do you feel?
One of my favorite changes I found after losing a ton of weight is how much easier it is to just wake up and get out of bed in the morning.

I feel a lot different. When this first started I was really sick. I was a raging diabetic and didn't know it.
In hindsight I had all the classic symptoms.
Very thirsty- i was carrying around a quart water bottle with me everywhere
Urinating often
I started losing weight without trying.
tired and weak
Very irritable
blurry vision - I couldn't see with or without my contacts. Turns out I also had diabetic retinopathy. The hemorrhages in my eye have since cleared up.
It took 6 months to get that all cleared up. Slowly I've been feeling better to pretty good. I don't have constant pain anymore. It's like I had a constant inflammation that is now gone.
The downside is I've had to replace all my clothes.

SO much this. I had no idea how shitty my life was. I was in constant pain, always tired, and never satisfied with food.
I used to go to an italian restaurant and eat a loaf of garlic bread and a family size portion of pasta and still want dessert. Now I eat half a bowl of pasta and a piece of garlic bread and feel full for 2 days.
The other funny thing is how randomly cold i get now. I dont think i ever noticed when the AC kicked on years ago. Now i reach for a jacket if I'm under a vent

Enjoy. I kept one shirt, one sport coat, and one pair of pants from my old fat wardrobe. I put them every once in a while just to remind myself what happens if i lose self control.

Down from 185 to 169 in 2023. Mid 50s. Weightwatchers, exercise and for a month I gave up alcohol. With Jazz Fest and resuming drinking, I am floating up to 173 or so. Thinking of one more push to get to 165, then maintaining that.

How much water weight on the weekend is normal? Does it take more than one day to shed the water weight if you had a cheat meal on Saturday or Sunday?
