I’m totally on board with them realizing that this the perfect tournament to have a relaxed atmosphere in between two big tourneys. My question is, how do they pair up the players for the alt-shot teams?

Two weeks away. I'm so fired up for this tournament I may go watch a practice round.

Just not a big fan of the alternate shot. Other than that, awesome tourney. Followed Cam Smith and Blixt last year. Cam must have eaten 2 pounds of pretzels

Scramble and Best Ball would be my preference, I’m not interested in attending an alternate shot match.

Scrambles were invented so that people who can't hit it out of their shadow can feel like they accomplished something by piggy backing off of better players shots. Not exactly what I have in mind when I want to watch the best in the world play.

Thanks for the clarification, I’ll make sure to play in a scramble somewhere Saturday and save my partying for the best ball on Sunday.

I'm fine with you scrambling, and am not against it at all for local play to speed things up or enjoy a round with people that don't play that often. I personally just don't want to watch the pros do it. There's better options like alt shot or combined score.

It would allow these guys to show of some incredible shots. First pro hits a nice shot 15-18 ft from the flag, the second guy is going pin seeking. Also brings in more agressive lines off the tees for some of the big hitters, and more ballsy moves on the par 5's, especially 18 where a lot of guys struggle to reach and hazard is in play.

All of these things are still in play in a best ball.

Less so than a scramble, but I don't disagree.

Eta: also, I just think there's a lot of holes out there they could make fun in a scramble. A few short par 4's where they aren't going to hit driver on their own ball but they may in a scramble. I'll watch either way, I just don't hate the idea

Makes those things more of a risk/reward play, sure, but for FedEx cup points and that amount of money I think that's fair.

For me, best ball and either alternate shot or combined score make it the most fair to the field by making both players contribute to win or finish high. At least two of the four days the weaker player can't hide.

Is chapman where both Tee off, pick best drive and alternate shot from there?

That’s a little more fun to watch than true alternate shot.

Doubt we ever see a true scramble on tour. Not sure if USGA even recognizes that as a style of play. But it would be fun to watch.

In Chapman, both players tee off, then they hit each other's tee shots and pick the ball they want to play alternating from there.
