People are acting like he's completely washed up. The dude was 10th in the Ryder Cup standings. It's not like he wasn't even close to earning his way on the team. He's won this season, he played well this past weekend, and if he continues to play well these next three weeks there zero reason for him not to be on the team.

Outside of that, he is the de facto leader of the team, and is great at keeping the guys loose. And that will matter for a Ryder Cup on European soil.

His overall Ryder Cup record is not too impressive, but his record in his last three events is very solid.

2016: 2-1-1
2014: 2-1
2012: 3-1
Overall: 7-3-1

And the halved match was probably one of the greatest singles matches ever played.

So yeah, if you think Xander Schauffele or Matt Kuchar would help this team more, then I don't know what to tell you.

Except he isn’t on the team at current, so great, our team leader didn’t qualify. Oh yeah, and that Tiger guy is there.

That’s a big if.

At the WGC in Mexico, don’t get me wrong a win is a win, but he’s also missed the cut several times this year.

It’s time to turn the page in US Ryder cup golf. I’d rather see some young guns get some experience than bring out Phil and watch him handicap a guy in alt shot because he’s spraying a driver.

Xander may not be ready and Kuch may be last his prime, but Tiger, Bryson, and Finau are locks. Give me Kisners putter and stability over Phil’s spray and be creative game.

Tiger isn't on the team either, by your idiotic logic.

Why? Because you don't like him?

Oh so now you're trying to minimize a win at a WGC event?

And so is Phil.

You're either a troll or a moron. Probably both.

I actually like Phil.

Phil being on the team is debatable. Tiger is in, but yes, small loop in my logic.

Which one: not ready, past his prime, or a lock?

You obviously left that one wide open, but didn’t response to the rest of my post. I guess calling me a troll is better than backing up your argument that we must have Phil to win.

Where did I say we needed Phil to win?

We are the favorites, and likely winning the Ryder Cup no matter who the captains picks are between Tiger, Phil, Kisner, Kuchar, DeChambeau, Finau, Schauffele, etc.

My argument is that Phil should be on the team, and that he will be on the team. And I'm going to be right.

And no, I didn't leave it wide open, considering it would make no sense for me to say Phil is "not ready" or "over the hill," given the basis of my argument.

Done with the troll. Come find me when Phil is on the team and earning points for the good guys.

My opinion as well and it really has nothing to do with Phil, I just think those guys should make it over him. Tiger is arguably a top 5 player in the world right now, Bryson just won and may have already been in, Finau is a birdie machine, and I like Kisner's consistency over Phil.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that opinion. I think there are solid arguments for both Phil and Kisner but to say someone is a troll for having that argument just means you have nothing of substance to offer.

That is my debatable point.

Phil is one of my favorite golfers. While others were drinking Tiger-jizz martinis, I was cheering on Phil. The guy sprays and has to get creative; just like my game but he way astronomically better.

Phil will be on the team. I will pull for him. If I were captain, I’d lick Kisners putter over Phil considering we already have Bubba.

Can we cut Bubba?

I’d probably keep Phil on the team, but he also hasn’t had a top 10 since the Wells Fargo so...

Fwiw, wanting someone like Kisner over Phil isn’t trolling in the least.

Imho, Phil ends up on it but if I were a captain, I’d rather Tiger, Kisner, Finau and Bryson... only because he’d annoy the euros as much as he’d annoy me.

Phil, Kizner, Kuch, and Tiger.

I want experienced guys who are fierce competitors, except Phil of course he's just Phil. He can pull off some amazing shite or shite the bed, you never know but he has the experience.

He’s missed 4 out of his last 7 cuts and has 1 top 5 all year. I can’t believe he’s seriously considered as a pick at this point.

He's clearly the #1 pick. Anyone who says otherwise is a golf idiot. Besides what's been posted, there's this:
