on Saturday? Was it an emergency? I knew he WD from the Masters but surgery on a Saturday seems rather dramatic.

You see it all the time with athletes. A guy will break his leg one day and have surgery the next. They don't waste time with putting off a surgery because it just delays recovery.

He likely isn’t going to a hospital surgeon, but instead a stand alone surgical center

Will had what we call a band-aid surgery..microdiscectomy to remove a portion of the disc that was bulging out of the annular tear at the L4-L5, L5-S1 segment. Being a pro-golfer with a high swing speed he will be further hampered by back problems requiring additional band-aid surgeries until he is forced into what now is termed the "Tiger Woods Surgery" (just like Tommy John surgery now the ALIF is referred to the sports great who had it done Tiger Woods)! Time frame from 1st band-aid surgery to the Tiger Woods Surgery will be anyone's guess( my guess is 4-6 yrs) but it will become necessary if he continues to stress his body playing professional golf! It was done by Dr. Micheal Duffy at Texas Back Institute same Center that did Tiger's surgery.

A little surprised he took off the restbof the year. I’ve had 4 major back surgeries and one microdiscectomy.(all L 4,5.) the micro was basically pain free. Could barely see the incision. Walking was pain free leaving hospital. The others not.

Doesn’t want to risk aggravating it and is trying to retool his swing to not have future problems and hopefully learn how to putt?

He’s a very young man to have big time back trouble. I wonder if he has a hereditary predisposition to these issues.

Either way, I hope he gets well soon.

He seems to have bad back posture in the setup and swing. There is a pronounced s curve in it, something I haven’t seen in other players.

Drs say almost all people who have back herniated disc are due to genetics. Idk, but the older you get the longer recovery takes. I know that much!

That’s not true. People love to believe their problems are genetic as it takes away any personal responsibility. Most are caused by people being overweight and out of shape, like almost every other health problem in America that is getting more common
