I’m going out to San Diego next week. A friend of mine got us a tee time at Torrey Pines - North. I don’t play often...maybe 6 times a year or so. That said, I manage shoot between 85-95 more often than not. On a good day, I approach 80.

Anywho, I went to a local course today just to get back into the swing of things, pun intended. Instead, I got a healthy dose of the shanks on any wedge shot. I shanked probably 15-18 shots today. It was beyond embarrassing. My immediate solution was to snap a 9-iron over my knee. Add in a couple of bad bounces into the water, and I put up a number in the triple digits.

No way am I taking this shite show to San Diego. I would normally have been happy just breaking a hundred out there, but this shite is embarrassing.

frick that, man up and play it.

It’s the best course I’ve ever played.

If you pack it in from shanking and not play it you will regret that for a long time.

Go to the range and put down a ball, put another just outside of it. Set up to the outside ball and hit the inside ball. Do this for a couple hours and your shanks will be gone. You’ll regret not playing

Calm down.

At least you’re missing it one way.

Keep your weight on balls of your feet.
Don’t move up on your toes.

Also, relax. Enjoy. We’re not making a living at golf.

I don’t give a frick if I get out there and play like Roy McAvoy on the US Open driving range there’s no way I’d miss that round.

It’s definitely the best course I’ve ever played by far. Just take mid irons and hit half punch shots all day and enjoy the course. It’s amazing

It’s not going to be enjoyable for you. The way they grow the rough you’re going to be spending the whole time looking for your ball and hacking it out. Also if your tee time is after 2:00 good luck finishing your round. Not worth the $ unless you’re local. Go hang out on the beach in La Jolla or pac beach if you want the views. Reese ruined that place.

I played South (The US Open Course) and the setting is incredible. The course is pretty bland aside from a few holes, but it’s still a great experience.

I hear the North renovation was well done. Go and enjoy playing on cliffs above the ocean in perfect weather.

Skip the golf and go to the adjacent “airport” and do the paragliding. It was awesome and you’ll get to see plenty of the south course. Ask your instructor to make it fun and thank me later.

Put a tee behind your left ear. Put all your change in your right pocket.

You’re not good enough to get angry about it.

Just tell yourself that every time you have a bad shot.

do you think you're a pro? why is it such a bad thing to shoot triple digits on a legendary course? It's a game played for enjoyment. I'll never understand people who don't want to play or are embarrassed to play just because they're not a scratch golfer. Everyone has bad shots from time to time.

Got the shanks....Go through the whole swing with your toes raised in your shoes....

Sounds weird but it works

Their are people who play a lot more often that 6 times a year that do this. Just shake it off and try to go hit some balls. This shite happens, it's golf. Don't think about approaching 80 or whatever and just hit the next shot.

who gives a shite? Seriously..for someone that plays only 6 times a year why would you have some inflated expectation of what you "should" shoot simply because it's a nice course? I doubt any CBS cameras are gonna be following you around every hole.

I was in SD a couple years ago visiting some buddies that live there and we played the TP south course. I suck at golf, if I shoot in the double digits I am generally happy. I don't remember what I shot that day and I'm certain it was lousy but I remember the course and the views and the great time we had that day. If you have the chance to play it, play it.

I'm not on tour. I play golf to get outside and drink beer/have a good time with the boys, if I shoot a good score that's just lagniappe. Play the course, if you are swinging so bad you are miserable just skip a couple holes and enjoy the scenery.

Either look up on YouTube a quick fix or take 1 lesson from somebody. That'll go a lot further than you think.

I brought the clubs. Appreciate the replies.

I’m competitive, so I’d want to score well. More than that, I just wanna strike the ball well. For me, it makes it more fun. I know I’m not a pro, but I’d want to score better on a garbage muni in my hometown.

I did bring the clubs. I could shoot 115 out here, but if I managed a birdie somewhere, or a badass shot anywhere, that’s what I’d harp on.

Realistic expectations. Bluntly speaking, I just don’t wanna shank the ball on every chip
