HA! Got down votes for calling Webb a goat ranch which it is! Guess if you have never been out of LA you would not know what poor golf options are available in BR. I'm really not blaming BREC for if they where to close Webb and up grade the course and raise the fees people would go nut! In the day you could paly there for under $10 bucks. If they raised the fee by 50 cents the old timers would lose their mines!! Lived around the corner for 27 years and played their many time including BREC tournaments but I don't think back and think what a great golf experience it was! It services it purpose for those who don't care about course conditions or interesting course layout! On it's best conditioned day it is not a great golf experience.

Yes Mike Drury is the superintendent. Knows what he is doing.

Mike was one of the best in BR in the late 60s and 70s. He was a big lefty that could really drive the ball. He played Webb all the time and I’d bet he loves the course.

I would love Webb to get somewhat decent, I quit playing there this year because the greens were terrible.

Webb once hosted Arnold Palmer.
It’s a BR treasure and should be nurtured as such. The fact that it declined is a shame. BREC should never ever have let that happen.

BREC has money. They should put it to good use.

Unfortunately they made a bad investment in Beaver Creek. It is a good course but it has lost them a lot of money and was unnecessary for the area.

Dumas and Clark has lost them a lot of money. Howell too but they did the right thing by closing it.

Losers take away from the winners.

Dumas could have/ should have been overhauled to serve that part of the parish with the money spent on Beaver Creek with some left over.

Played Beaver Creek twice and the course was in excellent condition though but that was several years ago. I haven’t played it lately.

Would be cool if they planted a bunch of trees and tall bushes along #15 at webb and around the back of the green to block out all the traffic that's right there.

Even before they widened Foster and College the proximity to the streets was a problem.
But the hole use to be a lot of fun, short but tricky.

They need to plant bushes down the creek and block the view into it.

Yes there's a lot they could do to Webb to make it a gem (pun intended) in the middle BR. It has so much potential.

It doesn’t have the length modern championship courses need, but it could be tailored for the average golfer, older players and the ladies.

The property was beautiful, with gently rolling undulations, and all the big trees. Wards Creek wasn’t always concrete lined either.
Big trees on 7 and 13 made those two par fives, nice right to left dog legs. Four was very long and uphill some. 11 was short, let you gamble but OB left was a killer.
Two was a very long four to a small green. 9, 12, and 18 were also long fours back in the day.
5 was a decent three to a small green. 15 was. As cool hold too. Three was made over, but the original 3 before widening College and before the back green add was a tough little hole. 8, 10 as and 16 were gambling holes.
14 was a nice dog leg left where the angle to the green was big.

I agree, that property could really be a great property,

If you're going to have a course like Webb where it's in the middle of the city like that, they need to put a tall fence around it with bushes/trees. Same thing around Wards Creek as it is a total eyesore. BRCC is in a similar boat and the fence around it definitely helps.

Paving the creek can’t be undone unfortunately, it is vital for drainage.
Since it bisects two holes I can’t see how shrubs or trees make sense.

As for protecting the perimeter in some places trees and shrubs make sense, but in other places I think bollards are best.

I’m for keeping large parts open on the west side of College.

He didn’t have a putter?

Seriously, Daly is probably one if the longest knickers ever. What does that hole play now? It use to be about 595 yards when all the trees formed a nice dog leg. If he did that I could believe it.

Why don't shrubs make sense? 4 foot tall would block the view of the creek and wouldn't change the golf at all.
