I remember playing 13 and hitting the other side of the creek only to have the ball roll in the creek. The same thing on 16.

But what good would four foot tall shrubs do? You would still see the concrete.

If you want to dress it up, maybe you could go with mounds of dirt and make big dunes?

I’m not opposed to doing something.

I was looking on google maps and going by memory and I see a lots of things that could be done to bring the original course back.

I'm not talking a shrub, then four feet and another shrub. Think 4 foot wall of greenery. I mentally did it the other day, but didn't have a way to actually measure. But I bet 4 feet would obstruct the view a good bit.

Way back when they use to have boxwoods about three foot high line the #1 tee.

I understand what you want to do but I think there could be a better way.

Maybe. I also floated the idea of a wall of ivy. Anything to block the view of the creek. I like hitting over it, I just don't like seeing it.

Before the concrete it looked better, but it never looked good

The netting on 15 needs to be higher. Clubs and technology have changed so much over the years....just saying. Oh yea, and I hit a huge PW draw that went over the net and dropped straight through the back windshield of a car.

I have luckily missed cars, but I have learned how damned high a golf ball can bounce when it hits concrete.

Last time I found the road there, I swear the ball bounced in the street 6-7 times and managed to not hit a car. It was like the ball was playing it's own 4-D version of Frogger and was winning.

No big deal

I once drove a ball to the side of 14 when the tees were up front,

14 isn’t that long.

Gotta be referring to 13, right? 14 is a lay up and 9 iron

Wow
That must have been after the trees at the top of the hill were decimated by lightning and storms right.

It use to play over 590 from the regular tee.

#13 was a monster par 5 back in the day - had to work the drive around the trees and blast the second shot - was a very small green if I remember with OB posts just left of the green.

Yes

You drive up a rise. A draw was the shot, but you had to miss the big trees. If you drove to the top of the rise it was about 300 yards to a small green with OB way left. The second shot was open but it was fairly soft at the approach to the green.

For its time, a good hole.

Nope thats when they were still there. the whole rt side of the fairway was tree line all the way to just about to 18 tee box, there is only like 2 or 3 trees left, which made the drive on 18 even harder if you missed right you were looking at least Bogey and more likely a double. lot of big hitters back in the day, I played with Beaver Pro in a tournament and he almost got it there.

I couldn't imagine playing 2, 4, 9, 13, and 18 without my 460cc driver. Some of these courses haven't changed in decades and I wonder how anyone got on these greens in two or made any birdies.

I was at LSU in the mid-late 90s and played Webb a lot. I had no trouble with those holes, but I was always a pretty long hitter and I had a badass driver...Great Big Bertha! That was one hot driver back then.

Yep.

I have hit the green in 2 on #4 (back tees) several times...and that was with 90s golf technology. Of course this was during the summer when the ground was dry.

My buddy once pulled it over the net. It hit a garbage truck and kicked back onto the green. I have no clue how to score that

Growing up, a lot of the holes played extremely short, at least compared to the current setup simply because the amount of grass.

Amazing how the comments about the course sound so similar to how Webb played in the mid 70's. Even with the persimmon woods, blades and balata golf balls it does not sound much different. Have fond memories playing there in high school - had some great games with Gayle Sanchez, Charlie Kennon, Dickie Meyer, Tim Graham, the Haile brothers and George Aucoin.
