Took a little mid week golf trip with my cousin and wanted to play a couple courses we never played before.

TPC - Thought the course was in good shape. Greens were challenging but fun, fairways and bunkers were in great shape and thought the scenery was nice. Course looks like a totally different place to me than when it’s set up for the Zurich. Definitely worth the $50 we paid to play and a trip down to NOLA.

La Tour - After hearing so much about it on here we decided to drive the extra distance to try it out. Course was also in good shape and had some fun holes, but was kind of a let down after hearing it talked up like it was Augusta. Glad I played it, but don’t think I’d ever make a special trip out to play it again when I have courses just as nice and fun that are much closer such as Carter, Beaver Creek, and the Island.

You're about to feel the wrath of Bandit. May God have mercy on your soul.

This board and LaTour is one of my favorite topics

Same here. I've been wondering if it's worth a trip from Lafayette to go play because of the way it gets talked up on here. Kind of figured it was how this thread describes it.

Was wondering the same and made the hour and a half drive. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice course, but I was waiting for something to grab me and it just never did. Too many closer options just as nice. Nicest tee boxes I’ve ever played off though

Those courses combined aren’t in as good shape as LT consistently is

To be fair, if you played any of those 3 this summer and then LT now with wet, dormant grass, I can see how they could compare. So I agree with your "consistency" comment. That being said, the OP's point was more to do with the hype of the course and how it's really nothing special in terms of layout and condition and experience. Although the sad reality in Louisiana is that consistently "good" on a public course is probably special by itself.

Little bit of a hijack, MNC. And I'm not trying to be negative here with anything; just genuinely curious. I heard even CCL has had to close a couple holes because of the sop and condition. We got about a week of dry weather here. Were they able to reopen or are they going to keep them closed for a while?

What did you shoot? It’s been soaked down here for awhile, TPC is always a good course but too easy imo, good writeup until you failed at the end.

Greystone’s layout and conditions are much better for sure.

The layout is certainly "special" since it always seems to make an impression good or (mostly) bad.

I’d argue that since Carter had their management/owner change and brought in the current Groundskeepers, their course is easily consistently as good as La Tour is. Granted, it’s a hard comparison when Carter sees 4-5 times the traffic that La Tour does.

CCL is re-doing the front 9 cart paths. Completely ripping them up and pouring them wider and integrating drains in them. Multiple holes have been closed for that at the same time. They finished #8 yesterday. The month of Nov had 22 days of rain, it was COP for all but 1 week total.

That's cool. Gonna be nice.

That would explain it. Group I know were talking about how so many courses were having to deal with the shitty November and a CCL member mentioned them having some holes closed as if that was the reason. Obviously not the case.

The bunkers were definitely much nicer than the other 3 I listed, in fact they may have been the best I’ve played in south LA along with TPC’s the day before. But outside that nothing stood out in comparison. I haven’t played Beaver lately, but both Carter and Island were in great shape when I played them not long ago. The Island had the fastest greens which surprised me. I’m not trying to knock La Tour because it’s definitely a nice course, but it isn’t on some other level like I was expecting/hoping
