Which is OB. Or you pull it left into a hazard

11 man Its so hard for me
It’s a pretty diabolical golf hole. I always try to hit my 7 wood at that fairway bunker and hopefully be a bit short and leave myself 7 or 8 iron in.

I'm a mid-80s player and shot my best round ever 78 there last year. Great course IMO obviously. It was in great shape.

I’ve always enjoyed the island
Years ago they had a $100 a month membership
It was a great value

Most golfers i play with consider it a birdie chance but they are longer hitters. I drive it up the left side of the fairway and hit a fairway across bayou Jacob (my woods are my most consistent clubs). I’m normally about 90 out on my third shot. When I miss to the left side though, it’ll end up in the water about. The pin placement on that hole can make two putts difficult too though it it’s left side sloping towards the water. Par is a win for me on 2

The Island is a very nice course.
Don't forget gnat/mosquito repellent.

To play it smart:
3W instead of driver off tee
Gap wedge layup
6 iron to green or 8 iron layup
Putt or chip
I don't think this is a great approach. A 6 iron shot into a green on a par 5 is not going to end well for most amateurs. I play the hole better when I get the drive down as far as possible in order to have a shortest club possible in my hand that will clear the bayou/ditch. Once you clear the bayou, you're left with a wedge shot to the green, which to me, will lead to more pars and set yourself up for birdie putts.

6 iron is probably the iron I strike the best.

I think hole 11 at the island is one of the hardest par 4s in the state.
I think hole 2 can be broken down and played well strategically and consistently, but hole 11 is legit one of the hardest holes you could ever play especially if the wind is blowing off the right from the cane fields and moving it towards the OB

When i get past hole 2, i think about how hard 5-12 are going to be especially when the wind is blowing. I think holes 5-12 at the island will make or break your round.

10 has gotten better for me over the last two years because you can drive it over the water and have more landing area than you think.
11 is hard
12 is downright ridiculous.

The green on 2 needs to be tripled in size and that bunker left sude needs to be eliminated.

I like it a lot. They also keep cold water stocked on the course and have beer cart drive around. Course is fun and beautiful. It also has a decent amount of shade on hot days. And I’ve only played it 3 times but I’ve never seen the course get backed up

Based on the recommendation of someone on this board, I played The Island one time as I was visiting BR last summer. I 100% want to play it again. I played it as a single the day after they had punched the greens. Cool guys running the pro shop. I guess people can tell I am not from the area, so we were talking about sports, LSU's historical ownage of OU, what the hell is some Okie doing booking a tee time in Plaquemine, LA, etc. but when they told me "we just punched the greens yesterday" I said "Well that's my luck right there!"
and they gave me 50% off my green fee
Y'all are bitching about #2. Yes it is a tricky 2nd-shot club selection and that hole threw me off. I probably doubled or tripled it.
I had some 9 or 10 year old kid named Augusta following me on the front 9 and I almost asked if he wanted to play with me because 1) his MILF mom was driving his cart, but more importantly 2) I was playing fast but he was keeping up with me, so I wanted to see the kid's game. maybe next time. Maybe someone here knows this kid? Might be a little prodigy.
I've told my wife I want another shot at this course, this year. 2 reasons: first, I really liked the layout. Second: coming from Oklahoma where yeah, it gets sort of humid in the summer.. I straight up was not prepared for the heat + humidity out there that day. I was drenched by hole #3. I remembered BR being humid in the summer, but it hits different at 56 years old versus 20.. At some point, I was on a short par 3 over water on the back side (15?) against the property line where the air was dead and I was out of drinking water.. seriously considered knocking on some doors to ask for water.. I thought I was about to give up the ghost.
Overall, this is a great course and a very fair test of golf. If this course was plopped in the OKC metro area, it would be packed all the time. You guys are lucky that grass grows so well in the area, we have issues sometimes in central OK. And we've had nice 'neighborhood' courses like The Island get sold for more neighborhood property development. Anyway.. can't wait to play this course again.

Probably because I was one of only a few idiots to play golf at a course with fresh punched greens during a heatwave in BR, but there were no beer carts and only 3 or 4 water jugs w/water in them. Again... my luck.

Augustin Gros(s) ?
From nola area. Kid can play. He paired up with us at Beaver Creek about this time last year or maybe 2024 for a practice round for a tournament he was playing in. Very nice young man and hit it a mile.

Maybe it was Augustin! The guys in the pro shop called him by name and I remember thinking "yep his parent's are golfers." He could not have been over 12 years old.

I've played the island about 7-8 times over the last 4 months. I love it out there. I can usually get an early tee time - 7:30-8:00 and be done by 11am.
Course in great shape, and the staff are super friendly. I played with some pro shop kids one day, and the next time I played they let me have a sleeve of pro v1x's for free.
I definitely recommend it, but like others have said, there are a few holes that can be challenging. It's not too bad if you keep it in play. 13-16 offer solid relief from the struggle that 10-12 is.
