Looking for recommendations for trip. Would like to have a PGA tour course in the mix. Seriously considering Sawgrass.

Budget?

For summer there is no better place than the Monterey Peninsula. Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay. There are also some good courses for less than $80. Beautiful scenery, cool temps...it’s a nice break from the Louisiana sauna. But it’s not going to be cheap. But neither is Sawgrass.

The first week in June we are heading up to Big Cedar. I’ll be playing the courses in the area. If anyone is around, I’m up for a game.

Head north or west, sawgrass would be miserable in July.

Pinehurst is surprisingly reasonable in the summer. Can knock out several top 100 courses there too

Coeur d’Alene In Idaho

Old Works and Wilderness club in Montana.

Take in some scenery as a bonus.

I've never played it, but I do know a handful that have and I've not heard good things about Sawgrass. Everyone I know that's played it says its not in very good shape and they are doing things to get it ready for the Players. Like I said, I've never played it so take that FWIW, but my two cents.

Budget isn't much of a factor but Cali is probably out of the cards. I do like the Pinehurst rec. Didn't think of that one. Played Tobacco Road years ago and really enjoyed it. Huge Stranz fan.

Reviews on various sites say the same thing. It is a bucket list course but can be extremely overpriced and conditions vary during summer months.

Playing Tobacco Road, Pine Needles, Mid Pines and Dormie Club in July.
4 nights 4 rounds for like $700.

I have played the stadium course twice, and the Valley course too many times to count.

I have only played the stadium in the Spring, but have not heard of any issues during the summer. The Valley course is always in great shape that time of year. It will be hot though.

The stadium course itself is actually a ton of fun. Typical dye course where sight lines kill you.

If you do Sawgrass, I would recommend both courses, King and Bear at world golf village, and possibly omni oak marsh course.

Another option would be play Stadium and Dye's Valley + King and Bear + slammer squire over 2 to 3 day period. Then drive down to Streamsong (3 hours) and play a great resort course. If wanted a cheaper option, could drive over and play World Woods instead of streamsong.

I have played World Woods Barrons. Enjoyed it. Reminded me a little of Tobacco Road.

Two that havent been mentioned

(1) PGA West complex in Palm Springs. Casinos out there too.

(2) Doral - 3 courses, all good tests.

Northern Michigan near Traverse City. Within an 1.5 drive of Traverse City there are probably 40 courses to choose from. Play Arcadia Bluffs, Kingsley Club, Forest Dunes and mix in a few budget rounds.

Do sawgrass then drive up to sea island (about 90 min drive)

We played 36 one day at tpc sawgrass, 36 the next day at sea island (18 on each course), then another 18 at SI the last day before flying back

Hard to beat Wisconsin Dells area in the summer. Lots of fantastic courses, scenery, stuff for kids. Blackwolf run and whistling straights to top it off.

I’ve played Sawgrass a few times. It’s a tough course. You should seriously consider taking a trip to Streamsong. Best courses in Florida IMO.

sawgrass isn't miserable in the summer (yes, it's hot - so is the rest of the South), is easy to get a tee time, and it's a good bit cheaper than in the fall/spring ... the dye course isn't much to write home about, though ... streamsong is fairly cheap in the summer as well ... yes, it's hot and muggy, but you're riding ... could play the 3 at streamsong and then drive up to play the stadium course ... probably a 3 or 4 night vacation for a bit over $1000 ...
