re: Ellendale 4-ball

Course is in really good shape. Fairways are nice, can pick the ball easily off them. The rough hasn't really grown in much yet this year, so off the fairway wont be too much of an issue right now. Greens are good (except for a couple spots where it had damage last year (15)). They have been on the slow side, but expect them to cut them down for the weekend.

Rock Creek on the way in or out

or even Magnolia Grove in Mobile which has an added bonus for a Ryder Cup. It has a par 3 executive course which could add to the matchups after a regular round on Crossings or Falls.
Just drive all the way into Utah. Play any of the St George area courses. Played Sand Hollow and a couple others a while back. The Ledges had some really pretty stuff.

Also the drive from LV to Utah is pretty impressive for us flatlanders.
Similar to the above, except that I would put Baytowne at #5. Not talked about much here bc people usually put BP and Raven on their list and Baytowne would be the 3rd SanDestin course.

Dark horse: If you can get onto Santa Rosa CC, then it would be in the 3-5 range.

Play the Nugget. Course is always in decent shape and it's a very forgiving resort course.
The sad part is that right now, the loser is the City of Louisville. Every second that goes by without one of the following two decisions being made , just makes it worse:

1. Dismiss entirely and do whatever damage control you can possibly do
2. Come out with complete justification of each charge.

It ain't fair, but in this day and age, the court of public opinion is the only thing that matters and the vast majority of the press out there is skewed against the city at the moment.
How many seconds does it take for a car to go 15 yards going 15mph?

re: Pensacola Area Recs?

Posted by TBCommish on 5/12/24 at 8:51 am to
I make a yearly trip to Pensacola and usually just travel to Destin or the Orange Beach area to play for the day as Pensacola golf isn't as nice.

Last year I tried Stonebrook and was really surprised how nice it was as a country club type course. You might want to take a look at it.
5 Handicap here. 57 yo. Switched last year to Recoil 65 F4 (lighter weight, but still in the reg flex range of stiffness).

One of the best equipment changes Ive done in recent years. I was losing a little distance over the past years and was considering a lighter shaft but I was still too fast for S-flex as it was too flippy. The F4 65 shafts are perfect for me.
Just a little update on some more testing I have done.

I've read that people were having mixed success in using their dishes at another location. So, I decided to move mine to another place I have that is 5.1 miles away from the designated address. The 5.1 miles is a direct line distance btw.

I'm getting a little more drops, but not enough to notice in general web usage. It may be that I don't have as much wide open space as the original location. The dish still points almost directly overhead. Speed is around 180Mbps down/35 up. Latency is around 40. The Starlink app does recognize that it is not being used at the designated address.

So more than usable.
I'm right there with you on that. I signed up for Starlink during the height of the hurricane outtages. Initially I was going to use it as backup connectivity for my business which is located on the same physical lot as the residential address which I am registered for Starlink.

But, if it is as rock solid as it has been in the first couple of hours, I may consider it to be the primary. Ill be stress testing it on my network over the next couple of weeks ( 10 machines, 8 VOIP, 30 total devices ) to see how it handles it.
I was interested to see that as well. The Starlink app actually has statistical tracking of data loss/connection issues.

When i first set it up, I think i was a little too close to the house (remember Im on the ground right now) and I was getting a lot of "drops".

Once I moved it to clear the 20 foot diameter, I have had almost none. So much so, that I didnt even put that in my summary above and I dont consider it an issue.

Ive already done some Emby/Plex streaming in the last 30 minutes and its been really smooth.
Ok..initial impressions...

I didnt do much research as I usually do when I get these types of things, so some of this may already be common knowledge

1. Its the version 2, which is the rectangle dish. Does not come with a wired ethernet jack. So all tests are from a wireless device. Ive already ordered the ethernet jack accessory so I can put it in bridge mode and use my own Orbi router and wired devices.

2. The pole on which the dish sits is 1.5 inches in diameter. I have an old directv mount on my roof which has a 2 inch diameter. They also sell a mounting adapter which I have ordered as well. Once I get it in Ill mount it permanently. For today though, I used the stand it came with and put the dish on the ground in the yard.

3. When turned on (Im in Terrebonne Parish) the dish essentially looks straight up. I guess that makes sense bc its a bunch of little satellites and it should connect to the nearest ones. However you do need a decent diameter of vertical clearance for an unobstructed view. Ive got about 20 feet in diameter. Once I permanently mount it on the roof, this should be a non issue

4 Speeds: Internet to Starlink Router averaging around 200Mbs down,30Mbps up, but have seen it as high as 290Mbps. Latency is around 30ms.

Wireless speeds (from Starlink router to wireless device) about 40Mbps down, 10Mbps up. Latency around 50ms.

Again this is with it on the ground and with no hardwire connectiion. Ill keep you guys posted.

Yep. South La.
Just delivered.
Will be setting up tomorrow or Wed and I'll give a report
Getting mine today. Fedex to deliver.

re: School me on mesh wifi

Posted by TBCommish on 7/12/21 at 6:38 pm to
I have the Orbi mesh router. One (the primary) has to be plugged into the modem. The others (the satellites) do not have to be and can communicate with the primary wirelessly.

With the Orbi system, you can have the satellites wired directly to the primary if you want. This is called the 'backhaul' feature. Its the feature that caused me to buy Orbi over the other systems. When I bought my Orbi, I think Orbi was the only consumer brand mesh router that supported backhaul.

The advantages are that a wired connection will always generally be faster than wireless, and, your wireless band no longer is shared between network traffic communicating between the primary/satellites and other device traffic.

As for whether a mesh system is better tech than extenders.. absolutely. Its nice having the same network ID across the whole of the house regardless of how many satellites you use.

re: Burnt Pine- Sandestin

Posted by TBCommish on 2/15/21 at 10:26 pm to
Burnt Pine and Raven are very similar. Both try to take out 1 or 2 sides with water on a lot of shots into the green. To me, they look a lot a like just in the layout.

As others have said, Burnt Pine is usually in better shape than the Raven, but the Raven is always pretty decent as well. I just played Raven this Saturday after the rain in the am and it still was in good shape.

Personally I've always thought the Raven was just a bit harder than Burnt Pine, but a lot of others say otherwise.

Blocking 311 and Tunnel down Barrow for an extended period of time at the beginning of the parade might cause some issues.

They might consider staging the floats on Wood St much like where they used to end the parade way back.

3) Im is going to be a beast of a golfer in the years to come. He's boring because he seldom misses a fairway and has a phenomenal short game. Was in awe of his round on Sunday.

The pitch going back to the green on 15 was an incredible shot.

Second the NZXT. Finished an ITX build and used the 210i. A little tight, but the cable management is great. Also, no sharp edges inside to get cut on. Amazing that some companies still don't address the little things on cases these days.
