If you recall nobody said it was a size thing we just don't like "casino chip" markers meaning the markers that look like casino chips.
So you have a problem with the casino chips but not the ones that are the same size and have just as many colors?

You made it about size which I assume you do a lot compensating for other areas where your marker may not be as big as other players
Do you always project or is this you trying to be funny? We are talking distractions. Size would apparently be a part of that. But again, you are now arguing that ONLY casino chips are annoying. Sure.

The thread is called 'shite that annoys you' not 'defend the shite you do that annoys other people'
It's a discussion board. There's no rule against disagreements. You let a poker chip annoy you. That's sad.

Doesn’t really bother me, but it can absolutely make a difference on soft greens

I said I don't mind coins which last time I checked don't have as many colors as half dollars.

A mark is to move your ball out of someones eye. Putting something down as big as the ball with more colors defeats the purpose.

We all have quirky shite that annoys us, this happens to be one of mine. I'm not sure what makes that any more sad than the next.

I don’t care about this arguement, but this is incorrect

Oh, another thread just prompted this. Guys who bring their own beer to the course and get shite canned by the 6th hole.

I bring beer to courses that don’t have drink carts

There are two times when marking is acceptable, to clean on the putting surface or when it may interfere or assist with someones ability to play a shot. I'm referring to when you're in or close to someones line which falls under the latter

Uh... what? A half dollar is a coin. I was just using it as an example of how big these ball markers are.

What you seem to be saying is that only one in this group annoys you. Only one is a "poker chip":

No it's not.

Meant to say half dollars don't have as many colors as poker chips so that's my bad. Also, no, I would categorize all of the large colorful man hole covers pictured under "poker chip" style markers. Easier to say than "unnecessarily large and colorful ball markers."

Not to poor gasoline on this fire, but I always carry a poker chip type marker, a quarter and a dime to mark by ball on the green. Outside of 15’ I use the poker chip since it helps me see my spot when reading a putt from the other side of the hole. From about 15’ to 5’ I use the quarter and use the dime inside 5’. The closer to the hole the more likely a marker is in someone else’s eyesight. Just respect the line of others and all should be good. That being said, if the poker chip marker annoyed someone I would respect their wish and not use it.

On a related note: I once played with a jerk that pulled out a $100 bill and stuck a tee through it to mark his ball since he said he didn’t carry any change. It was funny the first time but it got old after a while.

Some of those larger ones are certainly not as colorful as the smaller ones. So after all of that, it is about size.

And like Divot said, if it's in someones way, and almost always closer to the hole, I use the smaller one in my divot tool. I still find it funny that of all the things that bother you on a golf course, a ball marker bigger than a quarter gets on your nerves no matter where it is.

Yes, it's indefensible. I don't think there is a single level spot on the whole damn thing.

I've complained about it to my playing partners every single time I've played there. I just don't want to be that guy who complains to the Pro... I don't play there enough for them to care about my thoughts on it.

Who said anything about being shite canned? I can have 6 beers over 18 holes and not feel a slight buzz.

You made me think of another in the beer thread:

I'm playing golf for fun. Even in the tournaments, it's about the company and relaxation. I can't stand that guy who seems to expect to play like 2001 Tiger. He throws clubs. He curses constantly at himself and the course. The trees, the green speed, the grain, the lie, his clubs... everything just seems to piss him off. I'll never understand why people like that touch a club.

I did, because it's a shite that annoys ME thread. I didn't say you can't have 6 beers. I'm referring to frickers that try and drink a beer a hole and as the round progresses they become belligerent, need to piss every 5 minutes and have to tell everyone how fricked up they are. Then they wonder why they aren't hitting it well.

You do realize it's ok to move leaves huh?

Fact that you would equate some big arse chip to leaf is stupid.
And you know it.

Plus I'm not sure where you play, but majority courses I go leaves are only a problem certain times of the year.
Not so much with the big markers.

Plus only people I've seen use them are 20 handicaps who in turn are annoying bc of the fact they suck at golf.

And FWIW people who won't mark their fricking ball piss me off way more than casino chips.

I don't use a poker chip but I do use a large marker because it's easier to find in my pocket. If it's anywhere near someone's line I will ask if they'd like me to move it.
