They recently punched and pulled cores, and they did a deep verticut this morning. The greens are easily the worst I’ve seen them in years. How is the maintenance schedule not centered around the flagship event for BREC? The funniest part is the greens are as bad as I’ve ever seen them, and Green Fees have never been higher LOL. Baton Rouge / Louisiana golf sucks. Plain and simple

BREC needs a serious overhaul in their entire golf management. Raby just isn’t the right answer.

I’ve played Santa Maria exactly one time in my life and that was enough for me. I’m a 20 handicapper so I’m far from a pro, but the people playing there had terrible etiquette. Those behind me kept hitting into me the entire time and the ones in front played slower than Christmas turkey. The marshal was nowhere to be found, the course was nice, but certainly nothing that you can’t find at most other courses. It was a big waste of money to play there and honestly, I’ve had better experiences at City Park, Pelican Point, and others in the area.

One time and never again? lol ok I’ve played there off and on for 30 years and have never had a person hit into us. There are slow layers no doubt.

I putted for an hour on the practice green yesterday and it rolled pretty good tbh. They did have a trouble spot and some worm casts tho. Did not play the course.

I really hope what the op said is an exaggeration. Br/la golf def sucks tho. Agreed.

It seems like they're verticutting every week, yet the greens have been as slow as I ever recall them being all summer.

It's not Raby.

It's money - pure and simple.

BREC needs to make a strong financial commitment. Not likely - but that is what is needed.

We are in the middle of a golf boom. Fiscally they’re having as good of a year has they’ve ever had. Now if you mean how they spend it, then we can have a conversation. BREC is actually smart, they have figured out the price elasticity of demand for their product. They have raised rates to as high as it can go without sacrificing demand and limiting overhead. My point is the City Am use to mean something. BREC would give a practice round. The maintenance and resources were centered around the Tournament. They’d have a full field of 64. And they’d have a 1 day medal play tournament to be apart of the last few qualifiers to get in… and that was always filled. The city am is only 16 ppl and they’re still having a hard time filling the last spot.

Wrong. It is Raby. Let me give you some examples of things at BREC courses that with just a small amount of effort, funding, accountability and oversight could improve everyone’s experience.

The mats at SM can be turned every now and then.
The range balls at SM suck.
Zero concessions at Clark or CP, BC is hit or miss, SM is missing the boat by not having a cart girl or a restaurant/bar upstairs.
BC, Webb, CP bathrooms are disgusting!
BC has 2-3 different types of sand in their bunkers.
Edge the cart paths periodically at all the courses.
Maintenance has gone to crap at Webb across College Dr (#3 will soon sluff off into the canal).
The putting green at Webb and CP is atrocious.
There’s terrible erosion issues at SM and BC.
The range at BC and Clark is in awful shape.
Get rid of the geese on all courses! I know this may ruffle some feathers (pun intended) but they are an invasive species that wreak havoc on all the courses.
And my goodness, trim and pick up some limbs everywhere.
Also the native areas are creeping into past fairway areas on a couple of the courses. That’s just plain laziness.
If you can get a definitive answer from Raby along with a timeline on these repairs let me know. I have entered multiple issues into the BREC system with no success.

I’ve always wondered about that dead space bar at Santa Maria.
I’ve been to some small arse town golf courses that have little bars. Your telling me the local BR golfers wouldn’t buy a few beers to make a profit?

That’s why I’m glad I have a membership at FRCC. That place is going to be stunning when completed.

I played there about a month ago and the greens were in the best shape I’ve seen them in years

Raby gets all kinds of accolades for being a great rules official. He is away at all of the majors and other tournaments. Wonderful…..but it does nothing for the job he holds.

How many times have you seen him with boots on the ground at the courses? Rare if ever. He may be a nice guy but he is not effective in running the golf operations for BREC. He’s ruined the tournament schedule for BREC. Just wait until they pour money into City and leave it under the same direction. It will be a waste of money just like the money spent at Dumas and Clark. Leadership starts at the top.

The attitudes at some of the courses are pretty rough. The ladies working the snack window at beaver creek are a prime example. And the bathroom at the place is disgusting. I could go on for hours about the ineptitude at BREC.

Yeah it’s a joke. There is no metric to determine the gulf states awards.

They tried the bar/restaurant. Hell I ate there. It just wasn’t busy enough.

They had a cart girl, several. Public golfers don’t tip enough.

Stiop. You’re simpimg for the problem. Raby sucks. It starts at the top. Time for change. Run it as a business. Not just an employee getting a check. Hell anyone can articulate rules on a course.
