Seems like a lot of guys hopes of winning have drowned on #12 when they went at the pin when it was on the right side of the green (traditional Sunday placement), instead of taking it over the front trap. Koepka, Finau, Molinari, Spieth in 2016, etc. if they take it over the front trap and they're short, the trap saves them. Nobody has won because of a birdie on 12, but many have lost because of a double.

Jack says to play between the front and back bunkers. Like Tiger did today.

They’ve all heard that advice. I imagine a 150 yd hole looks like free candy to pro golfers. Some guys just lack discipline. Tiger is methodical

After today, maybe they'll listen to Jack.

If tiger would’ve been hitting first, he would’ve aimed for the pin. With molinari hitting it into the water, it was an easy choice. If molinari hits the green, tiger has to go for it. The whole tournament was decided on the 12th.

Tiger is a thinking man.

He will not aim at that pin.

Too many hopes and dreams have drowned there at 12.

Tiger knows where and when you try to get a pin at Augusta National.

It is not the right pin on 12 on Sunday at The Masters.

No way. Not unless he was 5 strokes back and had to make birdies. Tiger was never going at that flag

You can’t win the Masters at 12, but you can make double or more aiming at that right pin.

Hit it over the bunker. Make a par. Get ready for the tee shot at 13 which is where you can make eagle or birdie.

I don't know about that, but it's definitely the greatest short par 3 I've ever seen either on TV or in person.

It's cliche, but 12 and 13 back to back is so fricking epic.

It’s a 9 iron or wedge. If you can’t hit that close what can you?

I love how it looks, how the green looks from the tee, the wind that swells through there, water in play, the azaleas.

What a perfect hole.

If you don’t respect it it will eat you alive.

A few of the greatest players in the world just hit it in the water.
The greatest players ever say to aim between the bunkers.

But this dude says, "it's a 9 iron or wedge."
Ok.

That green between the bunkers is like 20 feet long. There’s not a whole lot of space to land it there. Think Tiger actually pulled his ball a little bit which gave it some more distance and put it on the green.

That hole was playing absurdly long for the last couple groups because of the wind.

I don't disagree. It really commands a good shot. The two misses for a right handed player, long left and short right, bring all the trouble into play. That's the genius in the design of the hole, IMO.

“Between the bunkers” isn’t much of a landing area. And if you go in the back bunker, you are now hitting out of the bunker to a green that runs back down to the creek. That’s not an easy bunker shot under pressure.

Four of the last five players hit it short and their ball rolled back in the creek. I know Molinari said he hit it poorly, but I think the wind was hidden from them and really working against their ball.

Here’s a pic from behind the tee box. The Sunday pin placement is such a mindfrick. That whole is notorious for the swirling winds and they were even worse Sunday. You think oh it’s an easy 9 iron to the flag but then you see the flag on 11 blowing one direction, the pin at 12 blowing in the opposite direction and the trees along 13 blowing in a 3rd direction and you realize you’re fricked. The best play there is par and hope you get a lucky bounce or roll. Tiger’s tee shot was going to be on the green or in the front bunker. Either way he was playing for par once Molinari went swimming.
