I get that the OWGR say events need to be 72 holes but I don’t really get the outrage over 72 holes versus 54.
Still a golf tournament.

That is just one of many they fail to meet.

What players were at the meeting?
The only names I’ve seen mentioned are Tiger, Rory, JT, Rahm, Xander, Speith, Schauffle, Fowler, and Cantlay.
Im sure Finau, Zalatoris, and others were there but no one is passing out an attendance chart.

Interesting take. It's a Tour players meeting. The players are the Tour. It's their Tour and they are going to meet and decide what they think is best in how to deal with LIV. Not some owner, not some commissioner, not Jay Monohan.
Yep.
If the majority of players were unhappy with Jay's performance as the leader, they can vote to fire him in a minute.

Don't see the Tour ever giving in.
If they did LIV would have every player on tour they wanted. Have your cake and eat it too

I laughed a little when I saw Rickie was in the meeting. I have always liked him, still do, but it's funny when people talk about all the LIV guys who have major championships are washed and yet Rickie Fowler is one of the influential guys on the PGA tour.

Yep, it would be death to the PGA Tour if they freely allowed tour players to play LIV.

Exactly. Knowing now that LIV players are required to play in all LIV events, that means they are locked into 14 LIV events next year. If they're also allowed to play majors and in the Presidents/Ryder Cups, that's 19 events on their schedule. That's only going to leave, at most, a handful of events for the PGA. That would be the end of them if they allowed it. The PGA Tour is not a viable entity if the best players are only playing in a handful of events on Tour a year. This notion pushed by Phil that both can coexist and players can play on both Tours without issue is a farce, even if you exclude the minor events on Tour. Those LIV players aren't going to play upwards of 30 events a year to play in all the major stops on Tour, plus all the LIV events, plus the majors. That's just not realistic.
Honestly the only realistic compromise I see is LIV downsizing to 6-8 events a year, not scheduling their events during major PGA Tour events, and PGA players getting to play in them without penalty. But at that point, you're just recreating WGCs and calling them something different.

No they can’t. The board of directors have that power.

LIV players should not participate in majors, Ryder or President’s cup events IMO.
If they want to create their own, feel free to do so.

Just dumb comment/opinion.
If LIV players want to compete w/ PGA players and also be considered for PGA event and cup events then go to 72 holes.
The "no cut" thing is irrelevant considering the talent level comjing in. They are doing a WGC type thing.....good, but go 72 holes.
If DP tour and PGA can have separate tours yet work together, then LIV can also. Not that hard.

There are ways to qualify for the DP and PGA tour though. The LIV Tour is solely by invite right now.

I think it also kind of creates sort of a paradox of how to even determine a world golf ranking for LIV players. Let's say for the sake of argument that LIV signs 48 players to 4 year deals, don't expand, and their field is set in stone. They only play each other every LIV event. How do we determine if these golfers are getting better of worse for OWGR purposes with no variance from week to week in terms of their fields? If they're only playing each other (assuming they're boxed out of other tours and events), how can we determine the strength of those fields moving forward. Of course, it's easy at the moment in year 1. But what does that look like a couple years down the road?
I think we saw what that can look like when we saw some of the insane RPI numbers in college sports in COVID years when teams were playing only conference games. Without the variance of OOC games, the reliability of a power ranking for everyone was impacted significantly. Seems like what LIV guys want to do is play in all the LIV events and then get sponsors exemptions for PGA events they want to play. No way they want to play the 15 minimum events required to keep their Tour status.

What does any of this have to do with you being wrong? Other than trying to avoid owning up to it, of course
