He's good on the mike. I can definitely see him in the booth when he retires.

At what point does Block's boss say it is time to come home and work?
Posted on 5/22/23 at 8:35 pm to TDTOM
Never. Having his name as the club pro is going to do wonders for business. Can you think of a cheaper way to advertise like that?

I am sure there's an assistant.
Good pub for the club/course.

Senior tour starts at 50.
Guy can play. Maybe getting some tournament golf in consistently will sharpen him for senior tour.

number of them are invited to play in the PGA tournament with the big boys
They are not “invited” to play in the PGA Championship. They have to earn their entry by finishing in the top 20 over the course of a qualifying tournament. Or, as Block has done with the top 15 finish, earn an invitation next year through his finish in the actual PGA Chamionship.

This is his work. Play good and Nantz says the club’s name on every shot.
“162 to the pin. Block has an 8 iron. It’s covering the stick. The club pro from X club has a 12 footer for birdie to move into the top 20.”
Etc and so forth.

He's literally with him

Block plays at my club at least one Friday a month in our afternoon Friday game. His mom and dad are members. He is a great dude. Shot a 58 in our Friday game a few months ago with a 3 on every hole from 8 thru 18. He has played in 5 PGA's and 25 PGA events so it is not new to him. He shot -8 earlier this year at the event in Palm Springs in the first round but still missed the cut. Guy can flat out play.

LSUTriarch....awesome story. The guy can really play, great for him and pub for his home club. Hope he plays well this week.

Correct. Each year each section host a section Championship. Depending on how many sign up, you get spots into the National Club Professional Championship- The PGA Professional Championship. The top 20 there make the PGA Champ. Only 1 time has the gulf states (La and Ms) section qualifier made the PGA Championship.

He is in dead last after round 1. I completely get inviting him. It’s a great story. Some young kid looking for a break got passed over for the spot. That being said, I think the limit on sponsor exemptions is 7. That could be wrong. It used to be the rule.

Tourneys can use sponsors exemptions however they want.
This one brings eyes to the tourney and he just finished 15th to the PGA.
It’s way better than some of the invites they’ve done in the past.

Agreed. And if I was a sponsor I’d do the same thing. My only point is this dude is in dead last and I feel badly for the kid that didn’t get his one shot to play on tour.

I completely get what you’re saying, but I think the PGA Tour has far worse exemptions than this one for me to really care about. When Frank Lickliter III is playing in Bermuda despite not making a cut on the Tour in 10 years gets me

Like anyone else, Block had his best golf a week ago, and his worst today.
Guys win and miss the cut sometimes.
Golf is hard.
I hope he can bounce back with a decent round today.

This was the golf Gods telling him to settle down a bit. His comments on that podcast were a bit much. Very similar to Sam Bennett’s comments after round 2 at Augusta.
