Orange Beach/Perdido golf UPDATE

Going to be at the beach the week of the 4th. Considering playing while I’m there. Any recs and some hacker friendly courses in that area?
Played 9 today. Lost so many balls between the 5 of us I can’t count them. However, the course was phenomenal. All the greens were great. Fairways were in perfect shape. We had a ball!!! 10/10 would recommend.

Kiva Dunes is a great experience.

Gulf Shores Golf Club for sure.
Peninsula and Kiva isn’t the best spot for super high handicappers. It just wouldn’t be much fun unless you just enjoy losing balls and 5 hour rounds

I do like gscc but disagree with rest of this post. I despise peninsula and love kiva but have never had a 5 hr round at either and have played them both probably 25x.

Play at Perdido Bay CC, it's not overly difficult or expensive and will be a much closer drive. Decent course.

You disagree that GSCC is a better course for hackers because you personally dislike Peninsula? And if you've never played a 5 hour round at Kiva, you've never been out there with two guys shooting 120 and behind a foursome with two guys shooting 115.
It's not a knock on Kive or Peninsula, only that GSCC is more wide open and more affordable so it makes it better suited for hackers but like I said, if losing balls and long rounds for more money is what OP is looking for, that can be found at either Kiva or Peninsula.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Looks like we will be playing the least hacker friendly course around, Lost Key.

Buy and play with colored balls.

Worst golf course I've ever played.

None of us are very good. Gonna play 9. It’s 10 minutes from our condo. It’ll be fine.

Kiva and Peninsula are a beat down for golfers that shoot mid 90s and up.
If you’re into long, frustrating rounds though, go for it.

Played kiva Monday. Pretty sure they punched Tuesday and Wednesday.
Fun round but probably closed for a week.
Perdido country club was half the price of Kiva and pretty nice. Much easier to score there.
Lost Ball can be fun if you want to hate golf.

I play Perdido Bay pretty regularly because it's 5 min from our place down there. It's a great course for the money. It won't beat your arse like Kiva can do some days. It's also great place for practice. Buy a bucket of range balls and you can hit balls on the range, chip on their practice chipping green and putt on their practice putting green. I do this alot in the off season.
Craft Farms is also pretty friendly to the average golfer. It has some wide fairways and the greens are not very tough either. I just can't travel that way when it's summer, traffic and crowds. When I'm down there I wanna golf early and get back quickly so I can get out on the boat.
I'd play Kiva more, it's the gem of the area but it's an hour + drive for me from our place in Perdido, especially in season.
Lost Key is OK, but it's tough if you don't hit it straight.

Why do you despise peninsula? I think both courses are very nice.

Peninsula is one of my favorites due to 3- 9 hole course all setup different. At Kiva, while nice it feels like you just go back and forth the whole 18. Craft is fun and wide open for easier scores. I do live here so I pick and choose my tee times and times of the year I play. Won’t ever play in peak vacation season.

Check the blue angels practice schedule - and if it lines up with when you’re in town go play AC Reed.
Get there very early (at least 1.5 hours before tee time) if you don’t have access to the base.
Not the greatest course per se but nothing beats it when they’re flying.

I love Lost Key. It's always in phenomenal shape and not crowded. I encourage people to keep talking shite about it, because it keeps people away
