Wasn’t there a course out in Belle Chasse at the Naval Station?

Yes Aviation Oaks, it appears it's gone now too.

Olde Oaks is just trash now. I was a member when Hal had an office out there. Him and Freddy would be out on the range hitting balls. Hal had his own balls he would hit and Freddy would be out on the range picking them up by hand, they would be out there for hours. The Chinese guy who owns it and Stonebridge has run them in the ground. My kid played a High School tournament at Stonebridge and they tried to repair some of the cart paths. A dead, no armed man could have done a better job, looked like they just poured the concrete with no forms and just let it set up. Found out he didn't have permits to do any work and had to tear it all out and start over. Haven't been back since, it's not worth $80 to play.

I remember when Hal had an office too. Never saw Freddy out there though, that's pretty cool. I remember being a freshman in high school and thinking how cool it was to play where Hal was playing.

Last time I played Stonebridge they had just made the cart path repairs. Not sure if it was the first go around or after the fix, but it was the worst job I've ever seen. It was about as bad of concrete work as I've ever seen and it was only patches. They would have been much better off just pouring gravel out and smoothing it out. The people didn't even form it up in some spots, you just had globs of it with cart tracks running through them Not surprising at all that that clown didn't pull a permit.

Palmetto was another fun course. I had several friends have a membership and played there a lot, it was definitely a suprise when it shut down.

Yep. It's not like it had been going that downhill and was in terrible shape either. Last time I played it before it closed I don't remember it being bad. I guess just lost members to Stonebridge (at the time Stonebridge was top tier) or got an offer too good to refuse to buy the land maybe.

I only played Shreveport Country Club when Evangel Christain Academy's Church owned it. It wasn't in the best shape but for $25 it was worth it. Way more hills than what I would have thought. and a hole that you had to look through a periscope to see if there was anyone in the way before you teed off.

Yep, that's when I was a member was when he owned it. I forgot about having to look down the periscope. It was easy to see why back in the day they had some pretty big events there and was the nicest around.

It was open for over 100 years. I think I was a member the last year they were open and I was playing in the club championship and was in the final grouping on the last day of it. I think I finished 3rd but I remember the long time member telling the winner that he was the first African American to ever win the club championship. Don't know why that stuck with me, it was just a little awkward

Westwood was awesome, especially when I was learning to play. They had night golf and we would be out there literally all day.

Probably saw you out there. Though I was a youngster at the time.

Bayou Barriere GC in Belle Chasse

27 holes. We used to play there while the Belle Chase Air Show was going on. The planes would make turns over the course and hit the gas to get back into formation over the airbase. Was always a unique day on the course!

Cant have this list without mentioning the old south course at city park in New Orleans (now Bayou Oaks.) there is a “south course” there now but it’s not the original course that was on the other side of the interstate.

Also Abita springs country club in Hillcrest.

Ruston Country Club and the Louisiana Tech 9 hole Golf Course are gone. No golf in Ruston, only Squire Creek in Choudrant nearby.

Seems unacceptable with such a big college campus in the city.

City Park course in New Iberia

Was a shithole

I think Squirrel Run also shut down for a while before it reopened as cane row

Spanish Trail also closed for a bit and became Eagle Ridge
