Had a 1 pm tee time today that I made on Thursday.

Drove over an hour to an empty lot. A young man from the pro shop showed me a memo from City of Alexandria stating that the course is closed due to coronavirus.

We played Oakwing instead.

I only mention this in case someone had upcoming plans to play there, and how this could possibly lead to other course closures.

Played Oakwing today also, didn't know Links was closed, was packed and in great shape though. What is the mgmt. at Links thinking?

Kid in the pro shop that came outside to tell us was apologetic and seemed to be as astonished as we were.

Course looked very inviting with no one on it and nobody around. LOL

Oakwing greens were fantastic, but pins were all in tournament locations and difficult to shoot at.

They had a tournament Saturday evidently.

The Island closed til April 1. Someone should make a thread for closures.

Damn

I feel bad for the employees that work at the courses - this will kill them financially.

Frasch Park in Sulphur is closed also. They did not give a reopen date. They are managed by SPAR (Sulphur Parks & Recreation) and they closed all spring sports and facilities. I guess they figure it's easier to just close the golf course too even though it's not really that much of a threat to spread the virus.

Links is owned by the City of Alexandria under the umbrella of the parks and rec department. City shut down all public parks... thus Links being closed. I assure you it wasn't the decision of the course management.

Links and Oakwing both played host to the APT Coca Cola-Dr. Pepper Open last week and were both set to be sits for the Korn Ferry Tour, Monday Qualifier. Those courses are both in as good of shape as they ever are. They did NOT want to close.

A thread for closures is a great idea. Any word from BREC yet? Santa Maria is open today.

Why are golf courses closing? If it’s fear of the virus spreading:

Do online tee times and payment. Check in with a starter verbally. Walkers only.
