I am sure it’s been discussed, but why do all the golfers stand in their line between the ball and hole. Never seen this my life until a couple years ago

They’re using a technique where you read the green with your feet called Aimpoint

Take out the alignment aid on balls will cure a lot of the slow play.

How many times do you see someone put a ball down at their mark, then fidget with it, stand back from it, adjust it, stand back, adjust it again.

Before they ever pick up their mark and even start their over the ball putting routine. Once you put a ball on the green and it’s your turn to play, put them on a timer.

I’d take the timer off on the last 3 holes or in a playoff. Pressure matters.

The ball alignment is minor. They stalk the putts from all angles way longer to determine the line.

Statistics say it doesn’t work anyway.

You can feel the weight difference in your feet.. helps figure out the slope and break to puts.
Actually works if you do it enough.

The dude who invented it claims most PGA players do it wrong which is why it doesn’t work for them. You’re not supposed to trust your eyes at all and most of them use a combo of eyes and feet. He said to really do it right you gotta not trust your eyes

100% would be behind this. It's gotten to where guys are marking their ball and lining up tap ins now. Come on man, it's a 2 foot putt, you're a professional golfer, you don't need to mark your ball and line up a 2 footer.

A 2 footer for half a million on a 2% slope on a green running 13 ain't the same as banging in a 2 footer at Webb Park.

It all still comes down to making the proper stroke.

Never said it was. The Tour averages making over 99% of their 2ft putts. You want to line up 2 footer that has some 2% slope with big money or a cut on the line, fine, do it. But they ain't all like that and odds are they'd still be making 99% of those putts.

Which part does he disagree with? I didn't think he even used a line.

An argument could be made, that it's breaking a rule. It's obviously not breaking a rule but it certainly seems like it...

quote:

Rule 10-2b (2): “The player or caddie must not set an object down anywhere on or off the putting green to show the line of play.”

When a player sets down an object — like a line on a ball — to show the line of play, that, in effect, violates Rule 10-2b, or at the very least the spirit of Rule 10-2b.

Use a line.
Don’t use a line.

For most of us, it’s just another thing to do wrong.

I like the line just to see if the ball rolls end over end. I don’t always get it aligned to the break.

Even if you get everything aligned and take a good stroke, some putts just don’t want to go in.

Often my golf ball suffers from acrophobia- fear of heights. The ball even with a urethane cover just hovers on the edge of the hole peering at the bottom. I can hear it saying, “that is so far down to the bottom of the hole. I don’t want to scuff my cover. I’ll just hang here on the lip.”

In all seriousness, I’ve been putting better lately. Mostly practice related.
Getting the start line more consistent.
