Recent tweets seem to indicate that the former three time All-American at LSU will be hanging it up after he plays out the remainder of his starts.

In a thread that started with someone asking when he was up next, Peterson responded...
quote:

"For those who care- I have 5 events left. I'm playing Hilton Head- Charlotte. Then Memphis. Then I get to be a great dad and be home every night with my family in Fort Worth." -@JohnPetersonFW

So by this indication Peterson will play:
RBC Heritage the week after the Masters
Valero Texas Open
Zurich Classic of New Orleans
Wells Fargo Championship
FedEx St. Jude Classic

When prodded as to why he doesn't want to take advantage of his talent and the opportunity that golf has given for his family he responded

quote:

"Not a huge golf fan...at all [...] I have thought about writing a book. About what the tour is REALLY like...

quote:

"Don't care either way bud. I hate the tour life. Not how it looks from the outside[...] travel. And the superficial nature of it."

Someone asked if he was looking to support his family, by operating his recently opened ranching operation he replied:

quote:

"I have been interviewing this week and last here in Fort Worth."

quote:

"I will give it all I got. But if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen. I'm gonna be happy with either outcome. The tour life ain't for me. But we will see."

I for one, would be interested in reading that book.

wow, that's really interesting. I guess I respect the decision to do what he feels is best for himself and his family but I have a hard time comprehending it. I'd be very interested in reading that book.

Without any further information he just seems like an attention whore. I hate people who are vague and negative. Either put it all out there or be a man and keep it to yourself. It seems like he is taking all of Pro Golf down when it is probably a couple of people. Everyone has drama and trouble at their job. Everyone has people who suck at work. Most people man up and just handle it privately.

Man... disappointing as an LSU and golf fan. Looks like he has made about $2.5M in his PGA/Web career. Very nice money but not what I would think is “retire before 30” money. But I obviously don’t know shite about his personal financial situation.

Even if I hated the tour life, I feel like I would try and grind it out another 2, 3, or 5 years. He has the talent to make a few more million over that period of time and really set his family up well financially for life. There’s not many jobs out there that pay as well as a PGA Tour pro.

I do question why he is choosing to play out his eligibility in these last few events if this is how he truly feels.

No doubt... I get such a kick out of reading the "Undercover Tour Pro" articles in Golf Digest. I'd be interested to see what all goes on behind the scenes.

My thoughts exactly. On a smaller scale, I cant stand the house I'm in right now, but if I can stick it out for another 3-5 years I should be in a good spot to get the type of house I want without putting financial burdens on the family. Why not stick it out and pocket that extra bit? Almost seems as though his injury exemptions are about up, and he cant stand the thought of having to go back down to the WebTour or try to qualify for his card again.

After reading through the tweets I think he expects to lose his card. Apparently has 5 events left to make a money mark to retain his card and it seems like this is his cop out so he can say "it wasn't for me" instead of "I couldn't cut it on tour." Seems like he lacks that competitive fire and confidence that professional athletes seem to possess and he's already accepted his fate instead of grinding his arse off for the next 5 events.

im sure to most of us weekend hacks pro golf is a dream but I can see how much of a grind it has to be on lower level players. hard to be a family man if youre chasing Monday qualifiers every week.

It could be this.

Also sounds like he just finds it very hard to keep a normal family life that he seems to want. I'm sure being on the road so much takes a toll. I don't know that he necessarily means he had issues with tour officials/other players.

Seems reading through as though he has his wife and son on the road with him. Probably makes it difficult to focus on golf.

Other than the fact that he's been on tour for like 5 years.

I can see how it would be a grind. He hasn't made enough money to fly private and all that. Listen to No Laying Up's podcast with Max Houma. When you aren't a top flight player you don't even know which tournaments your in until maybe a few days before.

He sure as hell loved the tour life after he hit that ace at the US Open and became a star. They went to Bogie's to interview him and do a puff piece on boiling crawfish. He had a smile the whole time.

It just seems that he has realized he can't grind with the best every week and is copping out saying he is leaving golf.

I agree with this. Dude is constantly in a twitter beef with trolls.

Also, are we to believe he had no clue of what life on tour was like prior to his experience? C'mon man, kids these days grow up "touring" Not to mention, he had several teammates and friends on tour.
