Guys on the Web tour can make $500k+. Even if I couldn’t stay on the PGA, I’d bounce between tours as long as I could and then become a club pro. He could probably get to $5mm by the time he’s 30 and then earn $150k-$200k as a club pro over the next 20 years.

ETA: wait until he has to get a real job. I travel for work and a lot of the guys I work with miss all kinds of shite for their kids. And they don’t make tour money.

Not really. At least they definitely aren't if they aren't getting invites to PGA tournaments as well. Your average web player probably makes $75k a year, and it takes a lot of money to travel the way they do.

I think it’s a bit of a cop out just Incase he doesn’t make it. Although, I do know he truly doesn’t like playing golf and is the type of guy that when he’s done playing professionally he will never hit another ball in his life. I can’t understand how you could devote so much time to something and really not like it very much but that’s him and he’s not the only tour player like that.

Because he's not even 30 and he's already made a couple mil.

Pretty much every professional athlete loses passion for their sport/game. When it becomes a job it's not fun anymore.

Read an anonymous football player’s take on this. Many of them did/do it because they could make a killing quickly. Said 75% if pro athletes are only there for a check

A couple mill, a lot of hotels and airfare, playing terrible, it gets old when you can’t handle the pressure and compete, hopefully he has pics of DJ doing lines off Paulina’s arse and tits while banging Jimmy Walker’s wife. He should contact Celeb Jihad for a quick fix and nice pillow of finances to sit on until he gets a used car sales job, once a quitter always a quitter.

So he hates golf and he’s fricking retarded to boot.

Sad.

I follow him on Instagram and have a buddy who says he is in his circle. His content has been weird lately and I have been trying to figure out why he kept referring to being semiretired.

Looks like he is an avid outdoorsman as well. I can see it. I know a lot of guys that played college sports, weren’t elite enough to play professionally, and while grateful for their experiences, are by no means wishing they were still playing.

Web.com pros making $500k? Club pros making $200k? Are we talking US dollars?

We can’t imagine the stress of trying to maintain Tour status and wanting to spend as much time as possible with a new bride and new baby.

He does not have the luxury of being able to have a bad round - every shot counts and that has to grind on you.

But he will forever live with the Happy Gilmore start in Asia a few years ago!!!

Looks like he’s settling in to farm life (has his own ranch, cattle, working on stuff on the farm) according to his Snapchat and Instagram

I have a hard time believing the guy wont play casually with his friends and family.

re: John Peterson- Early Retirement
I have a close friend that is a world class player - played on the European Tour. He was good but had to fight to make cuts and get a paycheck.

After he had his first baby he hung it up. When we discussed it he said he was a good player - but not good enough to ensure his Card year to year.

He said that having to sink a 10 footer on the 36th hole on Friday to make the cut to get a check got nerve racking real quick....and the pressure / strain was unreal.

Unless you are a top 100 player in the world, I don’t believe the life is as grand as expected.

Disclosure - I have never met Peterson - but I could see myself drinking a beer with him, shooting stuff and eating crawfish. I would not judge him based on his decision to retire early - all of us have struggles - his are just more publicly displayed being a pro golfer.

re: John Peterson- Early Retirement
Most of those young guys that dont have status arent living the golf life many think, except for the small handful of college stars that have sponsors paying for everything. The tournament fees and travel expenses are brutal for most of them and the stress of qualifiers and being away from home doesnt help either.

His are more publicly displayed because of his own twitter account.
