It's the same as ever...extremely mediocre.

Golf is hard.

Unfortunately, you will never hate me.

I’ve never played the course.
I doubt I ever will, and don’t really think about the possibility anymore.

I’d probably have framed a member for a horrible crime for blackmail material in your shoes to get a round in

I took lessons from GolfTec in the past and they did help me. But I got to a point where I needed a different coaching style/method.
Started going to a former PGA Tour player to work on my putting. I greatly improved so I decided to have him work on my short game. He showed me the light, now I feel confident in my game. I’ll go back to him to work on my driver and iron swings next.

At this point, I don’t really hit the ball far enough to reach some of the par 4s from the member tees.

I certainly would go IF invited, but my expectations would be very low. Especially putting and chipping. So other than my full swing and my short game, the course really is in my wheelhouse.

We're nearing the end of golf season up here. Leaves have covered the course, greens got punched this week, overnight temps are in the 30's. Pretty much just play now to get the last swings of the season in before the snow flies.

In August and September, I was playing the best golf of my life. I mostly play 9-hole rounds after work, and I shot a personal best 36 even par a few weeks back. I was posting sub-40 rounds regularly, 38s, 39s. It got to the point where shooting 41 was disappointing.

Key for me, as many have mentioned, control of the driver. If it's in the fairway, or even in play, I can score birdie or par. When it is wild and in the crap or OB, instant bogie or worse.

I started shooting lower scores when I took the driver out of my hands on shorter par 4s and started hitting 200 yard 5 irons in the fairway and going for par from there.

I got my handicap down to a 9 now after hovering around 13 for the last couple of years. I am still perfectly capable of blowing up and shooting over 90 for 18. I expect sub 85 rounds though and the goal for next season is to break 80, just need to string two solid 9's together.

Pretty freaking crappy.

My course pretty much closed down during the summer due to getting new greens. That included the practice putting green and short game area. Our range stayed "open" but was closed most of the time because it's hard to pick range balls when it gets too wet. I am usually a guy who practices 3-4 times/plays 27 holes a week. That got down to practicing once/maybe twice and playing maybe 9 holes most weeks on temporary greens since June.

I started playing in 2022 when I moved into a neighborhood with a country club and got my handicap down to a 16.4 early this year before they started with the greens. It's up to a 18.8 now. Every part of my game is terrible.

Making things worse is that Milton just royally fricked up my course including cancelling our member guest (even though the course will be reopen by the scheduled date). So not only am I frustrated with my game, I am frustrated that I paid membership dues all summer for a course that was barely open, just to it close again and have my favorite event of the year cancelled.

Sorry for the novel, but golf is really ticking me off these days.

If I could take away 2-4 swings every round, I would shoot at or under par every round. Its so damn frustrating to be so close.

Man I feel that as a 9.5 handicap. It’s a few terrible swings that lead to a triple or double every round that just get me out of the groove. I can put 37-38 up on a side plenty of times I just can’t finish. Last week I went 36 front 46 back then the next day went 37-44.

On both of those rounds it was a bad swing or two that put me out of it.

I was -1 through 15 today and finished bogey, double bogey, bogey. Pretty much sums up my golf. I have a mental block preventing me from going low.

I can only do two things right in a round. If I’m driving and putting well, my irons and wedges will be shite. If I’m striping my irons and putting well, I’ll constantly slice drives and shank wedges.

Yea that's frustrating but you just got to look at that as you still shot a 75. That's a good round.

Went and played 9 after work yesterday and it was nice taking a break from my course and playing an easy, wide open course without super undulated greens. A nice 37 with two birdies and no doubles to lift my spirits a little bit.

This thread has turned into basically everybody giving a story that could be summed up by saying "Golf is hard."

I want to check back in after this stupid comment that I made previously in this thread.

Played yesterday and came back to earth with 103.

Going back out tomorrow to try to rinse this poor performance off of me.

Shot an 82 with a triple and a bogey and knocked out the number 1 player at our club who is a +2.5 in our matchplay tourney.

Shot a 92 the next time I played.

Fun game.

Game is in pretty good shape at the moment. Handicap is currently 5.0, and shot a +2 round today (an eagle on the last helped). I’ve had eagles in both of my last two rounds, which feels great.

Driver is fantastic right now. Irons are mostly good. Wedges are OK, but have struggled with some fat shots that I attribute to ball position. Short game has been good, and putting great.

Of course this means tomorrow’s round will be a clunker.

I went from being able to reliably stripe a 2 iron blade to being unable to hit virtually any club in my bag in the course of 3 range sessions because I felt like I was “hitting down on the driver too much” and “picking my irons too much.” Just in time for the weather to get nice.

So now I am swinging the club like I’ve never even heard of a golf club before much less held on in my hands. It’s bad enough that I actually had a range buddy comment on “wow dude I don’t think I’ve ever seen you hit a ball that bad.”

I’m a disgrace to the game and should be tarred and feathered. I’m sure I’ll be back at it this weekend though.

Bought a new set of irons this summer. First new set in over 20 years and my game has gone to shite. I hit them farther of course because of technology, but my swing is all over the place. Chipping and putting so-so at best, driving, flip a coin.
