Was on a "work trip" last week and played Torrey Pines. I was on fire on the North (public) course, shot 74. My best round in a few month. Played pretty well on the South (US Open/Travelers course) with an 80. Drove the ball really well and made 2 putts over 30ft both days. Very fun rounds to say the least. I'll post a few photos in a bit.

Back at The Judge for another try at the Orange Tees. Either get rid of the flashbacks or full speed ahead for PTSD.

Last time was 1-iron in the grunge, drop, grind out a bogey on 1.

Today was a whole different story. 1-iron to 154 dead in the middle, 8 landed on and bounced right off the green. Chipped in sidehill/downhill for birdie….holy shite.

4….sidehill/downhill chip….clunk…birdie

36 at the turn, missed a 4 footer for birdie….with a 1 foot break on 10. Just slam it in? Only if you want a 30 footer for par if you miss. Ball goes 6 inches past the hole it won’t stop for 10 feet.

Faded down the stretch with a good bogey on 16 (super hard par 3) and a ridiculous pin on 18, impossible to get close as anything left of it would run 30 feet away. Especially if you miss short side like I did and chip it barely on and it just keeps rolling. So 1 over through 15 and finishing with a 75 I’ll take every day.

44-44. Felt worse than it was, but still not good for me at all. Average score per round is 80-81. Drove the ball okay, but everything else was crap. Putting is killing me. I'm on the practice green draining everything, and go total brain dead on the course.

I HATE golf.
I LOVE golf.

Shot 75 in the final round of our club championship yesterday. That put me at second place in the second flight and $100 pro shop credit. The heat was no joke both days.

I was hungover af yesterday morning, but I sweated out all the alcohol on the course. Played pretty poorly, but putted well and didn't lose a ball until my final full shot of the day going for the green on a par 5 and pulling it into the greenside hazard. Still got up and down for par to shoot a smooth 80.

Stupid game.

I bombed my drive on a par 5 and only had 150 yds. to the center of the green. I made bogey.

If you already had the match won, that is a good example of “elite net play”

Stupid game indeed.

So stupid that I went and bought new irons today because I broke my 6iron yesterday. Got a nice set of Mizuno JPX923 4-GW and heading to the range before work in the morning.

And today we’re off at Legislator, 1st hole sidehill downhill chip…birdie. Two days in a row, 1st hole chip ins.

Bounced one off the flag from 102 out on 4.

Meanwhile in heaven….emergency phone rings “god here”

“Sir, he’s already chipped in once and just bounced one off the flag on 4 to 3 feet, what do you want us to do?”

“Give him the treatment”

Proceed to lip out on 4, 5, 7, 9, 10

There’s a tree on 13 I dented with my head….and the ball.

I think I’ll just chili dip it tomorrow, safer that way.

Did you restart it yet?

Always good to have an extra set.

Graphite or steel?

Went with steel. The guy who was working with me on three different options saw my swing speed on the first one and said "yeah, you need the stiff shafts" so that's the only main difference from my last set, other than being from this decade.

I say that as if my last set was something I was fitted for...was a pawn shop set of Cobra s2 that I bought in 2015, so they were probably 20 years old at this point. But they got me into the game. Went to the range today and hit 15-20 balls per club from wedge all the way down to the 5 and maybe it's honeymoon phase, but I felt like everything I did miss was a manageable miss.

Played Willow Crest in Chicago a couple days ago. I love bent grass. Fairways were nice, course was tight, greens could be in better shape but there were pitch marks everywhere. Most tee boxes were also pretty torn up and a lot of them were uneven. You could tell the place gets as much or more play than Santa Maria

40-41 at Oakbourne. I still can't decide if I hate or love the course. Felt like I could i had 10 3-4 footers that I had to start well outside the hole. Made for a long grindy day in that heat.

My man, i am with you. Been a member for 13 years and still haven't figured it out. The greens are still in pretty rough shape from aerification though. Definitely not "Oakbourne greens" yet. Hard to make anything outside 3 feet right now because it's so bumpy.

Sunday I shot 40 on the front 9, swing was feeling great and was playing well. Almost made a hole in one on #4, landed it about 6 inches left of the hole and rolled to a foot.

47 on the back.

One thing I know... you absolutely HAVE to hit the fairway on par 4's or doubles will start piling up. If your short game is a little off on any day it's so difficult to get up and down. So if you lose a shot from missing a fairway, that bogey is turning into a double quick.
