How much to gain from a Driver club fit

Spin-off from the other thread on club fitting but what is the opinion on distance that can be gained from a club fitting specifically for your driver? I see Club Champion does driver fittings for $175. Wondering how much there is to gain from a fitting specifically when talking about a driver. When I purchased my driver, I just went with the basic info of swing speed as the main factor when deciding on the shaft options and which one I hit the best in the simulator. My average drives are 235-250 and when I’m hitting well I can touch the 280s. I don’t feel like I will/can get much more but I’d like to know if there is more distance out there for me. Also, I’m guessing they fit you for a club that is available to buy now. I’d like to know that if I don’t buy a club now is it worth it to get a fitting to where I get specifics that I can use later such as best stiffness, shaft weight, etc. Basically, if I’m not ready to buy a new driver at the time of the fitting, is it not worth getting fitted?

They charge you $175 to charge you double what the driver should cost.
Lol

Yeah. That’s why I’m hesitant to get fitted. Trying to see if there is any value to it.

Rick Shields did a comp of a driver from early 2000 to now and picked up 18 yards…
Not sure if that helps

Actually yeah it does. 18 yards is a decent amount but I’d be ok saving the money and staying with what I have.

I did a driver fitting here. Walked out more annoyed than when I went in. Stuck with my current gamer and won’t go back. At least not to the one in Metairie.

If you are not ready to buy but want to try all of the premium shafts just to get a feel.
If you are near a PXG store they will do a hour long trackman fitting for 50.00 and they have all of the premium shafts.
Or you can do a outdoor fitting for the same amount if they have a van in your area.

It probably is worth getting data from a monitor.
It is not a necessity, but I did it.
I’m happy with my driver.
Club champion put me in a Cobra LTDx with a adila red ascent shaft.
I hit several heads and several shafts.
If you know your data, you can probably fit yourself, but it was a gift from the wife.
I enjoyed the time in the bay.

Do they have shafts with oversize grips you can try? I wear an XL glove and my grips are all midsize with an extra wrap, when I hold a normal grip it feels like a pencil. The oversized grips help slow down my duck hook occasionally.

I would think it would depend on your swing. If your trajectory and dispersion is good with your current setup, you won’t get a ton. But if your drives are ballooning or launching really low or you have a consistent distance killing miss, then you could potentially gain a lot of strokes by doing a fitting. I wouldn’t suggest Club champion though. There are several good local fitters like James Leitz, Buddha, etc.

I’d call and ask, but I doubt it.
What do you do when you go Edwin Watts or PGA superstore?
Have you tried the “bionic” glove? They are THICK!

Up until I was 31(I’m 32 now) I used some old Nike Sasquatch that my dad received for hitting a hole in 1 in 2007. It was the only driver I had ever used.
Went to get fitted for a new driver as a Christmas gift from my girlfriend and family and it has changed everything off the tee for me.
I had an extremely steep(and outside to in) delivery that produced a shocking amount of spin with a 6 degree launch angle. I somehow still hit dead straight drives when I was on but if I wasn’t consistent it was could get ugly. I drove the ball about 270-295.
The fitting lead to me being aware of my shite swing and what I needed to do to fix it. With a couple easy setup fixes and an awareness of what I should be doing, I instantly started having a 13 degree launch angle with ~2100 spin.
I was fitted for a TSi3 with a Tour AD IZ-6.
My misses or bad days are still easily playable and when I’m right I’m launching this thing 300-325 and even farther with the right conditions.
I’m thrilled with the decision to get fitted.

Gotcha but it sounds like you gained better performance from more of a lesson in your swing vs technology or characteristics of the club. Im sure my swing is flawed but I’m comfortable with what I’m doing. I’m wondering if just by switching shafts or model if I could gain 20+ yds.

Easy answer, maybe
A lot depends on swing speed. Spin, launch. etc.
Can a shaft make a huge difference, absolutely it's the engine of the club.
Hottest shaft on the west coast with country club members is the Accuflex shaft (800.00) where some older guys are picking up 40 yards.
Of course you probably don't want to spend that, but there are some great shafts available these days.

Its very possible if you average is 235-250 and you can hit it 280 some of the time.
280 is probably when everything is lined up. With the wrong club, that may be whats keeping you from getting it all lined up more often.
It seems by your comments that price is an issue. There are some golf stores that will fit you for free or $50. the process of the fitting often turns into a minilesson.

I don’t get the hate for club champion. I’ve had good experiences there but you have to just understand that everything is more expensive to buy there but you aren’t forced to buy from them. They will give you your trackman info and tell you the specs of what was your best fit. A lot of times i get the fitting info and purchase elsewhere. But a driver fitting imo is the most important fitting to have. Def top 2 but imo the most important. If you have experience you can take whatever info you’re getting from any fitter cause you are paying for the fit. You’re not obligated to buy anything. Get your specs and price other places. The guys at club champion will even tell you that.

My fitter builds clubs for pros and doesn't charge a fitting fee or bullshite build fees, etc.
My driver cost what it would have cost if I would have bought it and the shaft from the manufacturers and he made sure it was built correctly. Same with irons. Club Champion is severely overpriced

I don’t think i sad they weren’t. But you can’t expect a fitter to work for free. If you buy from them yeah I’d expect or at least hope they build for free and waive the fitting but they also worked for that and don’t care if they get paid. I’ve purchased a lot from club champion and they honestly do a lot of free things for me. But i wouldn’t buy irons from them and I’d always price check to see if the shafts actually come as a stock option from the driver manufacturer. There’s ways to do it. Look, we get you have the greatest fitter and golf connection as you rip 330 yard bombs as you come out of your size 5 golf shoe. But not everyone has that option and honestly south Louisiana doesn’t have much with that. I just don’t get people wanting a fitter to work for free and when it comes to club champion you have ti understand they sell everything as a la cart. Doesn’t mean it isn’t valuable info they give. Imo if you suck spend your money on golf lessons first and go get “fit” at Edwin watts. Leitz, Budda, and club champion charge for fittings.

No, not really. I’m just wondering if it’s worth the cost. How much information or yards can I expect to gain by doing it. Like is it much different than going to Edwin Watts and swinging different clubs. I’d like to know that whenever I buy a club what should I look for from a swing weight, flex, etc. type information but if the fitting just matches me to buying a new club now then maybe I wait. I guess I’m happy with what I’m doing now just wondering if a fitting would make a huge difference over going to Edwin Watts or something.
