I've been struggling with a massive hook since I started back and just realized my right hand is far too underneath the club and closing the shite out of the clubface, need to get right hand more on top.
how do yall grip the club?

on a typical shot I tend to grip it a little strong for a right to left shot shape but if I want to work the ball left to right I go to a more neutral grip

the “V”s created by your thumb and index finger on BOTH hands should point at your right shoulder (for right handed players). If they point toward your face then your grip is weak and if they point toward your arm or elbow then the grip is strong.
ETA: another common beginner mistake is the placement of the thumb of the right hand in a manner that creates tension against the grip. The thumb and index finger on the right hand should have near zero pressure on the grip.

This is massive. I wish I was told this the first time I picked up a club. I just managed to get comfortable with a looser right hand after doing it wrong for a year and it's definitely helped my iron play.

Having the right hand underneath the club has been wrecking my swing.
Its wild how important the grip is.

I bet 85% of amateurs have a shitty grip

I've dealt with a slice my entire life. In the last year, I finally corrected it. The last couple of times I've played, I have been dealing with a nasty hook. I looked up some solutions, and one was my right hand being too far underneath my club like CBandits mentioned. I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes next time I get a club in my hand.

I’ve been tinkering with a few different grips all spring and a stronger left hand seems to work better for me. The right hand placement has been a struggle for me. I have trouble closing the club face and have gotten a bad habit of forcing it closed with my grip

Overlap
Left 2 fingers closest to the thumb and thumb pad. Right hand just along for the ride with 2 knuckles showing

Yeah that was one of the very first tips my grandpa taught me many years ago

I just played 9 with a weaker right hand grip and the changes in ball flight were dramatic.
I never went left not once. it actually changed my swing because and I started swinging faster through the ball because my tense up from fear of going left was gone. wow this was eye opening. I even sliced the shite out of one and was pumped because I knew the club wasnt closing its arse off on the downswing. weakening my right hand was huge for me. I basically have a text book neutral grip now.
It feels weird as hell, gonna take a lot of practice but I can tell this is what I have to do.
having your right too far under the club will wreck your game, it has to be somewhat on top.
