Sadly, this is the case. And it’s not just golf. Third class, low class, no class- it’s permeated every aspect of society. The decline is real and most of the participants are gleefully racing to the bottom.

But you’re not helping by not mentioning it to management. They may not do anything about it, but you should make them aware of your experience. You’re paying for it. Even if you got free passes.

I’ve moved to new locations and have been the ‘single’ paired up a bunch as well as had singles paired with me and a regular buddy.

Just mesh with whoever you’re paired with. That’s part of the game. You’re with them so don’t screw up their plan. If they’re overly serious, then just keep your head down, play your game, be respectful, and don’t get in the way. If they’re just out having a good time, don’t be the overly serious guy. Get you a beer and relax.

50% of people on a public course have zero clue of golf ettiquite. Know that going in. You want a PGA environment, go join a private course.

I considered hitting it back to them, but I could not see them. I also thought about parking cart on it, or just picking it up. In the end, I just rode back and said, “we are still on fairway, they are still on green.”

Very true. Yesterday I witnessed a threesome who backed up the whole course. The older guy was teaching two others how to play; looked like a teenager and his dad. When I was teeing off on 10 after skipping around them on 8 because of them taking forever to hit 2nd shots, they were finally hitting the tee shots on 9 after probably 5 minutes of "lessons". I finished the par 4 10th and looked back over to 9 where they were still in the fairway after their tee shots. Looked at the tee on 9 and there were 2 groups waiting.

That group should have let people through knowing that two of them were just learning and playing at a snails pace. Beginners need to go to the range and learn how to at least hit the ball before going on the course.

And the problem is that most of the people they hold up just sit there and take it. Play into them to where you’re right on their arse and call them out telling them to let you play through. I’ve watched people just play behind that shite their entire round instead of telling them something or going around them

It’s helpful when you share where you were playing and make other people aware of the socioeconomics of the area. You left an affluent area evans to play a course in not so much Hephzibah. Yes people wear blue jeans there. Same thing goes at rocky branch in lincolnton. Less wealthy people tend to make more questionable decisions such as skipping around holes to get around groups they perceive to be slower. There is no decorum.
Not trying to be a jerk here OP but you had to have known what you were walking into.

I've played since I was 12, and I don't think I've ever heard someone doing this loud enough for it to be a distraction, much less multiple times in one round.

People listening to music is just part of it now. I don't prefer it, but my brother does, so when I play with him I go along with it, it doesn't bother me. But he keeps it on a volume low enough where you'd have to be right there by the cart to hear it.

If I'm playing by myself I'll have airpods in, but I usually take them off because I convince myself that that is the reason I'm playing bad.

You are right.

I learned something. I use to live out that way 30 years ago, and I played all those courses then- Goshen, Green Meadows (aka South Augusta National), Pointe South, etc. Never had an issue, but 30 years sort of changed the dynamic.

When the wind blows, that is a really tough pin to get to for even a big hitter.

Member guest was last week so the course is in prime shape.

The golf course is on the hard side for me, but I enjoy playing with my friends.

I’m not a big hitter, but I’ve had to hit 7 wood or even a 5 wood(if tee is back) on 17 IF wind is making waves on the pond.

I mostly play gold tee now, but this afternoon I played a mixture of white and blue tees with a couple of friends. We did stuff like switch tee shots, shamble, scramble. Good way to walk 9 after work and see different holes. I like to play from different tees randomly when I just do 9 after work so I can swing a variety of clubs.

Are you s member at Champions or ACC? Or another local club?

Champions. Play a lot off campus have a lot of friends in their 30s who don’t prefer to pay $135 a round. I’ll play rocky branch. But I know what I’m getting into.

I heard Champions rough is pretty deep.

I would struggle in those conditions.

The edges of West Lake are kind of rough. Sometimes the bunkers are really thin(even down to liner), but it’s close to the house and on the way home from work so it’s easy to get 9 in after work most of the year.

I had thought we were done with switching the clock, but I guess the law did not go through??

What is the status of time change?

It’s “fall back” an hour this weekend, but is it possible that after “spring forward” we might not change the hour again?

I’ve looked at this site, but I don’t think messaging is part of the site.

No biggie. We will probably accidentally meet sometime.

I played in a couple of fundraisers at Champions. It’s top shelf. One had DA Points play with the largest donor and Rod Pampling play a shot with each group.

The other one was The Exchange Club. They gave Yeti Coolers as a tee gift and Thompson Squared as entertainment.

Champions Retreat is very high end.
I thought the 9 closest to the River was the best. I wish I was not such a cheapskate(relatively) sometimes. Being at a club like Champions would be ideal, but I’m hard wired to be kind of frugal.

I Thought a lot about joining Forest Hills and The River Golf Club, but in the end, being close to the house and having many friends already at West Lake made the choice the right one for me.

You say this like people skipping holes on courses when there’s no need to is a problem these days

So what if they’re actually slow and holding you up, and won’t let you play through?

Let me guess, just sit there and take it to keep up decorum
