Long story short I had 4 acres of trees at my house, and after hurricane Michael I have no trees.

I’m thinking of making a golf hole (about 200yds from tips) for my daughters to practice on. I’m a decent golfer but love to fish and hunt more. I’m pushing my daughters toward golf bc it’s a sport we can do together.

My question is has anyone done this or know where I should start. Some of the nice turf ones I’ve seen are like 12k. I’m not opposed to this but would like a cheaper option if available. Tia

My dad did this on our farm in KY. 3 holes, 156 yards, ~380, and a monster 550 up and down some of the hills. The par 3/4 shared a green. Per him - It’s pretty simple just mow the primary rough at 2”, drop it to 1” and mow a fairway inside rough (30 yards wide). Once you have that lined out drop it again 1/4” and you have a fairway. Do the same for tee boxes. Green, pick a spot and mow it the same and keep reducing the height until you get a satesfactory putting height. Use a push mower to get the desired putting green height. Weight of a bush hog/tractor/riding mower will create problems. Paads told me it should take 2 days and this was on some hilly terrain in central KY.

Is that what you’re asking about?

Kinda, but where I’m wanting it doesn’t have grass right now and idk if it would be more maintenance to do real grass and have to water, fertilize, mow, etc or just do one of those that snaps together

How close is your nearest country club? I’d spend the money on that.

That's a couple years of country club dues at a nice facility.

Yes, but then he wouldn’t have a golf hole in his backyard.

OP, go for it. If you can afford it

IDK about turf but going with grass, you’ll need a rollerblade mower and now damn near daily. Also, you’ll need to fertilize and spray for weeds seasonally. It’s a lot of up keep.

Exactly - meaning he wouldn't have to do this:

It just seems like a terrible idea - the upkeep would be ridiculous - an amateur would never be able to make a "nice" golf hole, much less a puttable green. And even if you could, you'd have one hole to play over and over.

The only way this is a good idea is if he is uber-rich, can pay for someone to design it, build it, and pay for a small crew to maintain it year-round.

I have a 2 "greens" with flags in my yard but they are not professional by any means.

1 is about 90 yds and 1 is about 65 yds.

I mow them on the shortest setting on my mower.
They have cups and removable flags.
They are not good for putting but are very serviceable to hit balls to.

I would love to haul in some sand and actually contour an elevated green with some decent grass and a drainage system underneath... maybe tif eagle or something that does well year round in southern climates. Buy a reel mower and keep it up.

You could do an artificial turf green and a few tee boxes to make a par 3 hole of different lengths, then just mow around the green to make it chipable for shots that don’t land on the green. Wouldn’t need to mow a 200 yard fairway that way

No it’s not. At least not a nice private country club. Unless mean only dues before you walk in the door.

If you aren't in a rush, I'd drop seeds and see how that goes. The price is significantly lower to start but as some others have noted, maintenance is going to be a significant cost and labor requirement. If you are looking for just a hitting mat and a green that is a par 3, artificial would be the way to go. Doubt its 12k. My buddy redid his back yard all turf with a 20x10 putting green and put him back 20k.

Have you considered making it a driving range instead With 5 or 6 targets that have decent size greens to hit to?

A guy I used to work with lived on 6 acres in Montgomery, TX. He had an artificial green built and then made 9 different tee boxes himself at varying par 3 distances around his property. Had a 9 hole par 3 course that all hit into the same green.

Not really, I just thought that having the green and a hole that could be played from all distances would be pretty awesome. She doesn’t hit it far but kinda has a good swing. Really struggles with the short stuff though

In the event that you aren't in a surge, I'd drop seeds and perceive how that goes. The cost is fundamentally lower to begin yet like some others Best Golf Irons For Mid Handippers have noted, upkeep will be a critical expense and work prerequisite. In the event that you are searching for only a hitting mat and a green that is a standard 3, counterfeit would be the best approach.

My family has a huge land somewhere in Joshua Tree. It has a small house with huge backyards. There are different kinds of flower, plants and small fishpond. I am thinking if I can add a small golf course so I and my kids can play without going to any golf clubs. Do you have any tips or suggestion in preparing the golf hole? What stuff should I used to make it?

I bought the best golf clubs for beginners here https://golfcompletes.com/best-golf-clubs-for-beginners/

would love to see some pics!!

OP I got nothing for you but if you are adamant about upkeep and enjoy cutting grass I think it would be a very rewarding experience.
