For example,Spieth, gets 20 million a year just from under armor alone
Under armour has nothing to do with the PGA tour. Spieth would get that whether he was with the PGA or LIV.

Tommy Fleetwood made 18 million just in earnings.
18 million is not 50 million or even close to 25 million. Fleetwood was also 2nd in money earnings on the tour. The average PGA golfer is making less than half of that pre-tax and having to play 20+ events to do so.

LIV didn’t take any PGA Tour players last year… probably respecting their framework “agreement”.
I think they realize that’s out the window for the time being, but they’re also not going to buy a top guy for $100M+
The big discussion this year is whether or not Koepka is playing on LIV next year. At this point, I’m assuming he stays there

Probably not. Even if he doesn't agree to go full team branding and marketing like Rahm and others have, he's going to get less from under armour with less exposure, impressions, and marketability

Being on the PGA tour allows for the bigger endorsement deals . That’s why those tv ratings threads that make you melt actually matter

Safe to say he isn't winning any majors.
I do not agree with this.

Jordan is lucky to have his deal while on the PGA Tour, in my opinion. When is the last time you saw anyone wearing Under Armour on the golf course?

I saw several today at a school booster scramble. The point is, his visibility would diminish on LIV, along with the value.

2 very young & talented golfers who chose LIV over PGA. OWGR pts & access to majors will only help their popularity/success grow
Thanks for proving the point that LIV doesn’t make stars. I’m a pretty big pro golf follower and I have no idea who those guys are

They’re both 22 years old. I wasn’t claiming they are “stars” yet, but they could be.
I was responding to someone who claims LIV just poached guys. That’s obviously not true, outside of when they started the league & then Rahm/Hatton.

I like MWL. A good bit actually, I root for him when he's near the top. But the odds of almost any golfer winning a major is very slim. This past years major performances make his look even more slim. Of course he's 27 and every golfer outside of Scottie has ups and downs so it's not like last year in itself says he's not going to win, just history tells us he most likely wont win one.
I think he's a good golfer, of course when it's rumored he's going to LIV everyone all of a sudden dumps on him. But he'd be a good get for them and financially, it'd be a much better decision for him.

One of them is most famous for urinating in Ray's Creek.

LIV has signed plenty of young guys before McKibbin and Ballesteros. It’s telling that very few on this thread could say who they are without looking them up, and it’s because so far at least there’s no proof of concept that performance on LIV alone is enough to move the needle on a golfer’s public image. Everyone popular on LIV was already popular on the pga tour when they were poached.
Your Ben Griffins, Ludvig Abergs, Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala, JJ Spaun, Russell Henley, Sepp Straka, Cameron Young, Chris Gotterup. All guys whose performances and narratives on the pga tour have significantly elevated their name recognition over the past 2-3 years.
Hell Tommy Fleetwood this year became one of the most popular golfers in the world based almost solely on pga tour performances and storylines (I.e not how he did in majors).
So far there’s just no indication that LIV has that sort of juice or pull. If anyone from LIV is going to increase their standing it’s going to come solely from how they perform in majors (or how often they break 50 on YouTube). Maybe that will change with time but there’s no evidence of that right now.
Also the above assumes that LIV is able to get some form of world rankings points or otherwise increase their major qualifications so these young guys actually play in majors

Exactly. James Piot, Andy Ogletree, Caleb Surratt, Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra, Matt Wolff, David Puig, Luis Masaveu... Congrats to them on getting paid, but it's not a great look when a league's "young stars" tend to fade into obscurity and barely play in majors after joining.

Only two I would consider a potential “young star”. Puig is doing fine. Still the 2nd best Spanish golfer in the world.
Wolff is a head case but he has the talent

Separate and apart from the issue of LIV not having the viewership and juice to make stars, there’s also the issue of talent evaluation. It’s like an NFL draft.
Let’s be very generous to LIV and say that roughly every year they sign up three of the top ten amateurs turning pro (again that’s being generous to them given their model and what they’ve done so far).
PGA tour gets the remaining seven of the top ten, plus players 11-32 who all join the KFT. In just a pure numbers game which league is more likely to generate “all-pro” level golfers from any given class?

Let me guess, Tony Finau and Victor Hovland

If the "recent" part of the report is true, it would eliminate Finau. He hasn't won in three years.

Victor Perez first offseason signing for LIV Golf, played on PGAT last year
