FRCC transformation

Played FRCC many times growing up, a 9-hole track in New Roads. Not great but better than Ethel (IYKYK).

Mr Jim Moore putting $40m into the re-build…intends for FRCC to be a top-tier golf destination. Reopens in the Fall.

We will have to agree to disagree here. I hated playing FRCC. Sure, Ethel had a 65 yard Par 3. But there were a handful of holes that just shocked the conscious over at FRCC.

I thought about joining but I don't think I am going to play enough golf to justify it at this point in my life. I also play too much at Copper Mill, Beaver Creek and Fennwood. I'll just hop on some tee times with some friends who are joining if they allow guest.

That’s a pretty jaw dropping number.

For reference, Medinah spent $25m on a near re-build of their championship course.

The $40m is the owner’s estimated total he will have spent from when he bought the course, which includes the purchase of new land and building new facilities. But he is still spending a lot on the new course: sodding the entire course, zoysia fairways and tees, etc. Weird that he chose a relative nobody to design it. His biggest accolade I see is his award from Golf Digest for designing Copper Mill. I wouldn’t expect Doak or Coore/Crenshaw, but a 2nd tier group seems to have been in the budget

2 Biarritz greens on 1 course will prove to be 1 too many.

It’s a gimmicky move and if the greens roll 11 plus will be brutal for the average amateur and ruin an enjoyable overall design.

Hope this works but lack of population and other destination gives me pause on this development.

He has FU money. He knows it won’t turn a profit. He doesn’t care.

Their greens were incredibly hard and quick prior to the reno.

Sounds good, maybe he could renovate the Bluffs and offer dual club model. That would attract the BR crowd with both courses available.

He’s not in the golf course business. He’s making the investment in the community in which he lives and owns multiple businesses.

The Bluffs only chance of making it is renovating the existing holes, minus the six holes along the creek. But that would require more land purchase (SFV property is expensive), and losing that original footprint and views would make it tough to sell at the $150/ round price point it would need to survive.

They got the members to support it? Seems like a bold strategy

1-4, 17 and 18?

I mean I know why you say that, but surely there is a way with modern engineering to protect the holes, the bill just may be insane. 5 of those holes are what make the course. I would think you have to find a way to preserve them if possible.

Pebble Beach figured out how to protect 18 on the Pacific through hard armored earth anchors.

Yes the scour can be prevented on Thompson’s Creek to preserve Arnie’s design.

Not even close to a fair comparison.

Thompson Creek has incredible current in that bend and dramatically changing elevations due to rain fall. It’s not just about scour but sand boil and flooding.

All true, but there are remedies. The Bluffs didn’t fail because of hydraulic challenges on the creek.

Could probably get rid of 2 and 3, which i believe we're the 2 most affected holes, and not lose much... 17 is must be preserved though. And I think 1, 4, and 18 aren't too far behind.

ETA with the growth and redevelopment going on in St Francisville, and the growth of golf. I'm convinced the bluffs would be thriving today if they had managed to stay open attachments little longer. Another nice course in the area would go a long way towards making it competitive with places like Fairhope for little trips for people in the area. Has the same charm, food, drinks, golf, spa, etc... Although im sure the residents of St. Francisville probably dont want that.

Hope so, the area is a Louisiana gem and with the right vision and reciprocity with FRCC could attract corporate outings and even guys golf trips.

Why would anyone have negative comments about this investment this dude is providing for golf? Any golf facility in the BR area should be welcomed with open arms. Moved out of LA years ago but one of the few areas I would move back to would be the St Francisville area but with no golf courses that's a no go for sure. If the Bullfs was back in business I would be all in to move back.

There’s no negativity except maybe 2 Biarritz greens is perhaps 1 too many. The renditions are amazing looks like a top 5 course in Louisiana when it opens.
