re: Do you think Tiger will ever play in a competitive pga tour tournament again?

I think people forget just how long Tiger was back when he was dominant. This golf.com article explains a lot of awesome facts. When he was in his prime, he wasn’t just winning. He was crushing the competition.
I love them both, but each in their prime, same equipment, I’m going Tiger all day.

By which metric?

I'd assume all the Jack dick riders in this thread are just old boomers that want their old boy to remain on top. The fact is the competition between Jack and Tiger's era's was/is vastly different. So many more guys with the ability to get hot and win a tournament in Tiger's era. You can count any bs "metric" you want from 50+ years ago but nobody reinvented the game like Tiger. It's laughable this is even an argument.
Tiger at his peak ('99 - '02, '05 - '07) was far and away the most dominant golfer to have ever graced the planet and was arguably the most dominant athlete in any sport in American history.
By pretty much every measure, he faced much deeper and broader fields than anyone who came before him ever even thought of (Palmer, Watson, etc. would have about halved their major totals in Tiger's era), and he was so far and above them that it was awe-inspiring, laughable, pick your adjective. Winning 25 - 35% of your tournaments is just ludicrous with the depth of the field Tiger faced.
All that said, Jack had better longevity and managed not to get sidetracked with absurd shite, but Jack also faced a competitive global professional field about 1/10th the size of Tiger's and a competitive global field that was probably 1/100th the size of Tiger's (due in no small part to Jack, as it were).
I am extremely comfortable saying that no one will win more than 10 majors in the next 30 years (Tiger won 14 in the 30 years after Jack's last major). And that is 100% due to Tiger. There are too many good players now and the prize is too high. In the not too distant future, 5 majors will be seen as the equivalent of 8 or 9 or 10 in previous eras, and career peaks will generally be younger and shorter than they were in yesteryear.

Because of Tigers injuries. If he stayed as healthy as Jack did up into his 40’s I’m 100% positive he would’ve smoked Jack’s record.
Probably, but his swing caused many of his injuries. That's why he had to retool. Jack's swing was timeless. That's part of his legacy. He had the ability to win over decades.
This conversation really is stupid, but fun.
Ill throw in there, that you know Jack would have loved to take on Tiger with both of them in his prime. You could just hear it in his voice when Tiger was winning non-stop. Jack wanted to be out there to test himself!

Yes it is.
Even Tiger knows that 18 is greater than 15.

He done. Will invest time in Charlie's golfing future, is my opinion

I think it all depends on his desire to come back. He was just starting to get that competitive fire back before it happened but who knows what his mindset is right now. I think he will be back but he won’t ever be Tiger again.

Not exactly the worst way to spend retirement

His swing def put stress on his body but it’s well documented where his injuries came from. His training with the seals and decade of running 10 miles a day caused his back and knee issues. He never let it heal and it compounded. I find the argument a bit ridiculous cause at their peaks nobody is or was what Woods was at golf. In my household we worshiped the Golden Bear. He was my dads idol and i was taught and told that he was the Goat. Then came woods. I mean the guy dominates everyone including jack in pretty much every golfing statistic. If majors is how you judge it all that’s fine. Hope you think that Bill Russell is the greatest basketball player as well. He has 11 rings. If not your logic is flawed in this type of sporting discussion.

You’re comparing a team sport to individual and want to call someone else’s logic flawed?
Posted on 8/26/21 at 12:42 pm to CoachChappy
Well it’s a weird debate when you’re picking who wins more 4 tournament stretches a year in individual sports when there’s plenty more golf tournaments than that. Tiger has more wins total than jack has. A good amount more in fact. It’s just a weird debate how people decide who the goat is. Yeah, so and so has more rings. So and so has more majors. Old people love jack and he is their goat. I grew up and was younger when jack was in his late 40 and 50s. I’ve watched tiger since day 1. You can’t compare stuff like this.

He's gonna have great success on the Senior tour ..

Far worst things have happened

I hope he returns and wins. BUT, as a person who has had multiple back surgeries, leg issues will put more strain on an already weak back and probably keep him from playing/practicing enough to stay consistent enough to be competitive on tour.

Tiger will play on tour again.
Most likely venue Augusta

You are right. Tiger Woods will go to his grave knowing that he was never able to match his idol. Not because of golf ability but because those all important 5 inches between his ears.
