Do you think practicing driver off the deck will help improve ball striking with it?

When I am off with the driver, I tend to top it, sometimes catastrophically… do you think practicing hitting driver off the deck would help me improve this?

No. You have to hit slightly more down to get the ball to make contact with the center of the face which is the opposite of what you want to do when it’s on a tee. Terrible idea.

I have some friends who hit driver off the deck. Their swing speeds are much faster than mine.

Do you have access to a teaching pro?

A 30 minute driver lesson may provide an understanding of why this is happening and what you can rehearse/practice/setup to reduce the bad swings.

I have a buddy who's round was in the tank one day because he kept skying his driver. He started hitting off the deck and unexplainably his drives were a mile long and straight. No clue what was going on that day. Just interesting to watch.

After that, I've started pulling the driver out and going after it off the deck when the situation is just right. It goes better than expected more often than not. But it isn't something I'd do regularly.
